little contest this year

I forgot to tell y'all that our farmer was running a guide service out of our field when we weren't there. Sun came up one morning and there were blinds on both ends of our field. After the season closed a guy called me and said he hunts in the field next to us, that he's a lawyer, and that the farmer pulled the same shite on him. Needless to say, we're getting our money back

Why? Because they have "greenheads"? Clearly y'all haven't hunted Venice when Pintail are thick as fog, hunted Pecan when the Grey ducks come in droves, or even SWLA teal season when you don't even have to open your eyes to kill a limit. Yes, NELA is good, but to say its better than south LA is pretty frickin hilarious. I'd rather shoot a mixed bag of pintail, gadwall, teal, spoonies, and wigeon than sit in the trees and shoot Mallards all morning. I've hunted Tensas and its amazing, but not close to the site and sounds of south louisiana marsh. Not to mention the redheads and canvasback....

Oh, and y'all's enjoyment over catching "white perch" is great. I've flushed bigger gold fish down the toilet in my day.

i read about 12 pages of this thread and no one said ANYTHING about offshore fishing except you northerners lumping into "saltwater fishing" as if it's one sport.

-lump fishing
-rig jigging
-mangrove fishing
-trolling
-spearfishing

all of these are vastly different sports with completely different species. when you factor in that the inshore fishing is literally the best in the world, and that the bass fishing (numbers wise) at certain times of year will whip everyone else in the state, NOLA and south of there pretty much puts the entire state to shame in terms of fishing.

this is not even considering that the entire atchafalaya basin is in SELA.

throw in the at least 2nd best duck hunting, maybe a tie for 1st with NELA, and average deer and other hunting.

now throw in the obviously best crabbing and crawfishing in the state.

SELA wins hands down for overall opportunities for an outdoorsman. this would be a more even fight if you reduced SELA into the NOLA area and put the basin in with SWLA.

It's a different type of hunting in SLA and it's not for everyone. But, if you've ever shot a limit of mallards in the marsh, I don't see how you can say it gets any better

Knee grow please.

This is saltwater fish:

You win that contest in a runaway landslide game-set-match resouding kickass victory. Not nary other hunting activity can make a legit argument to be the best. And the fresh water fishing is fairly equal statewide.

Yeah because the only species of ducks up there is mallards.

Ok.. But why is offshore fishing considered SELA? Most people (like 99%) still live hours away from the nearest offshore fishing ports. So from Nela, it would take me an extra two or three hours to drag my boat down to the gulf and go out. To me, offshore fishing is gulf fishing, not a specific part of La.

I don't give a damn about mallards. Where I go in nela, we kill a mixed bag, and we do it frequently. Hunting in s. la is good, hunting in nela is great.

NELA - Best hunting and can fish freshwater
SELA, SWLA - Still have hunting and can fish fresh and salt water

The hunting might be better, but it doesn't make up for missing a whole other genre of outdoors. SLA wins.
