Found some old lead shot in the cabinet. Old #6 Remington and Super X. Besides burning them up shooting black birds, what’s the easiest way to dispose of them?

If they are safe to shoot go buy a box of skeet and a hand thrower. Not the most fun thing in the world but it beats throwing them away or shooting a black bird.

If they’re capable of shooting black birds, then why can’t you use them to hunt squirrel, dove or rabbits?

This.

What's wrong with shooting black birds though?

Don’t squirrel hunt and have very limited opportunities on bunnies. But you’re right, I’ll keep it separate. Maybe I’ll get lucky and get a chance to shoot some hares next season.

They will shoot, no need to get rid of them, but if you must dispose of them you can cut them open and pour the power in your yard for fertilizer...

The only way that I am comfortable disposing of old shells is to do as wick suggests and cut them open...once the components are separated, they are no longer dangerous.

that is too much work for me, though...I usually just go to some rural area and shoot them up.

Old is a relative word. I have shotgun shells that I know are 20yr old if not older. They are just as good and some better than the cheap crap you buy today with watered down powder loads.

You could sell the lead shot also. Someone will buy it.

Sheriff's office might be able to answer that question.

Although a trip to the skeet range is prob the best bet.
