If I had got caught doing all the outlaw stuff I still wouldn't be able to hunt.

As a kid I killed 15 squirrels and 6 wood ducks one morning. I killed the woodies in 3 shots.

We had the law called on us one evening and a parish cop showed up in my yard. He asked if we called the law on someone hunting and we said no but you can check the neighbors up the hill. As he pulled out we loaded those ducks up and hauled arse. If it had been a warden in the area we would have all been in a bind. It also helped that one of the guys brother was the K9 cop for the parish.

I've seen woodies pile in a hole in the middle of a field that looked like a flock of black birds. Must have been several 100 come in that pot hole.

But I never baited them.

I have one better than that. Friend of family was a warden. He coached me several years and had a son my age. They would use our camp often. Once we were shooting wood ducks coming in at, well, when woodies come in to roost.

We had a lake next to the camp. I can still hear him yelling from across the lake, "YALL STOP SHOOTING GOT DAMMIT!".

We baited the hell out of some doves now. Had a buddy that made sure we had doves when they had clear cuts on their hunting club. Cook out, drink beer and shoot doves, those were some good times.

Dove hunting at my buddies grain bins. Amazing how they always manage to accidentally spill grain two days before the opener.

Auger also malfunctions around the pit every year.

I still have two motorized pirogues with seed spreaders glassed into them to make spreading corn in the ponds easier.

Those were the days they were wrong but they were the days, I can remember my dad dropping me off for fourth grade after I had my first 50 duck day. It was amazing what we didn't know back then. So So glad I came to respect the wildlife since then.
