What's y'all opinion?

Going to get a carry piece. I have narrowed it down to a G26 or xds9mm but one. What is y'all's choice and why? Thanks for the help

My CCW is the Glock 27. I like the .40 round better than the nine for self defense.

I am admittedly a glock fanboy but I don't bash on other makers of high quality guns. Springfield being one of them. To me it came down to two things. I didn't like how the xds felt in my hand compared to the glock. The glock shot better for me as well. Another small detail I did not like was the grip safety. It's most definitely a non issue for just about everyone but I just wasn't a fan of it. But many would consider that a plus so take that fornwhat its worth. Great choice on the 9mm higher round count faster more accurate shooting and when loaded with 124gr hst one hell of a terminal performing round

Well that's just like, your opinion, man

Im left handed, and Glock makes shite for lefties. However, glocks are great guns.
Good luck
Good luck

Well, he did ask for our opinions right? Timmayy makes some good points on the nine mil. It comes down to personal preference. Good luck OP!

Just curious but what do you want them to do for left handedness? The only that I could see being a downside is the slide lock but I can honestly say I never use the slidelock of either my 19 or my 43. And the mag release is reversible.

It's really two completely different guns. Xds is substantially thinner...and being that I'm a skinny fella, I don't want a thick arse double stack clock weighing my britches down.
Xds or shield for me. And that's a pick em between those two.
IMHO

My every day carry is an XDS .45. I use the longer of the 2 mags that come with it so it fits my hand nicely. Highly recommend it.

the important question is what are you gonna do with it when you use a public bathroom

It's old fashioned, but there is nothing wrong with a hammerless wheel gun.

The argument for .40 vs 9mm absolutely comes down to personal preference. I had a G23 and that is what I learned how to shoot but once I shot my buddies G19 I went and traded my G23 for one. I have another friend that has a G27 for EDC and a G23 for range. He's good at shooting both and doesn't mind the cost of .40 but I'm loving these 9mm prices

Gen 4 are ambidextrous. You can change what side the magazine release is on.

The springfield will have more muzzle flip than the glock for any given caliber/load. The barrel is higher with it than the glock relative to the pivot point (your wrist), therefore it will exert more leverage in recoil and the muzzle will rise higher.
I think that they will both go bang every time, but the glock is a much simpler gun to use, disassemble, clean, etc. There are millions of them available at police surplus stores really cheap. Mags are $10-15. Holsters are plentiful.
The trigger can be made much better on both. It can be made almost good on the springfield, but honestly, I would never deviate from an absolute factory setup on a ccw gun.

Go look at luckygunners ammo test and look at all the forties and all the 9s. I just don't see the case ata alll anymore for a 40. A 124gr hst+p got 18" of penetration with .66 inches of expansion. Even if a 40 performs slightly better ballisticaly it's downsides far outweigh. The whole saying of its personal preference has literally arisen because people are tired of fighting about it.

I second. I much prefer the xds over the glock. Glock is a great gun, just comes down to personal preference.

You really should look at the HK P30sk in LEM.

I'm surprised how few people mentioned that you're comparing a double stack to a single stack. Know that the XDs is a single stack where the G26 is a double stack. There are pros and cons to each and I'll paste a bookmarked post I did a while back that is relevant here:
_______________________________
To the average person it seems easier to stick with one gun that does everything. But it's much more practical to get multiple guns for different needs so it's good that you're open to it.
Now, for a home defense gun and a car gun, the role of the gun will be generally the same since a full sized gun will fit both roles.
But if you're like me and like to have a mobile gun in the car that can be carried at times, I think it's good to go with a compact or a subcompact in this case. I like going with the subcompact in this case because I have a single-clip holster that is very easy to take on and off. A double stack handgun is carried more comfortably in a leather holster with a dual-clip design. I'll show you each.
Single-clip holster with a Glock 43 (size category - single stack subcompact)
Dual-clip holster with an XDm compact (size category - double stack compact)
If you don't know what I mean about "single stack" and "double stack" I'm referring to the width of the magazine. If a gun uses single stack magazines it has a much thinner profile. Here's what I mean:
On the left is the M&P Shield (single stack) and the right is an M&P9 compact (double stack)
As you can see one has a much thicker profile. The single stack gun will be more comfortable to carry but will minimize you on rounds. So it's really a question of how much comfort you're willing to sacrifice for number of rounds. For what it's worth, I have both a double stack compact (M&P9c) and a single stack subcompact (Kahr CM9) in my carry rotation. This is where buying multiple guns makes it easier to carry with different types of clothing.

This topic comes up a lot so I'll go ahead and give my reasoning for carrying 9mm. It's definitely personal preference for the standard defense rounds though (9, 40, 45).

9mm, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP all pretty much do the same thing. One is light and fast, one is heavy and slow, and the third splits the difference.
40 S&W is a high pressure round by design (basically a permanent +p) so it has an increased slide velocity. This increased slide velocity causes the "snap" some people have described. It also causes the gun to wear out sooner after 1000s of rounds (although it's doubtful any person would ever get them to this point).
I choose 9mm for these reasons:
1. Cheapest ammo (across the board)
2. Higher magazine capacity (in the same sized magazine)
3. Faster follow-up shots
4. Lighter felt recoil
If the difference in foot-pounds of energy is relatively small, it will make no difference at all in the real world. To me at least, a higher magazine capacity is superior to a bullet with a marginally higher velocity or marginally higher muzzle energy. Hunting is a different story... But when shooting 2-legged predators, I feel 9mm wins in service cartridges (the big 3).
