Yeah, like I said earlier, I'm a "have it and not need it instead of need it and not have it" kind of guy. I have one in my home and now my truck. I reckon I'll go get my concealed carry permit here soon.

And yeah, it hit me today that I'm done with exams and the bar and all that bullshite. Big monkey off of my back.

$350 for what looks to be an SD-40. I'm going to shoot it and get familiar with it on Tuesday. Like I said, I'm not very a very sophisticated gun consumer and I'll most likely be happy with what I bought.

The trigger on this gun is bad so if you only use it as a truck gun, you will be ok. Just make sure you got one that works. Like I said early, my buddy has a SD40 aka Sigma and it jams every other shot

I had an original sigma .40cal and never had any problems with the gun. Just couldn't ever get use to the 10# trigger pull. Looking to sell a rifle to purchase a 9mm M&P.

I did notice it looks to be a two-piece, hinged plastic thing. I'll see how I feel about it once I shoot it Tuesday. I'm going to be giving the revolver to my mom here in the next few months so I'll be in the market again.

Definitely need the old one back

As for this whole gun thing, get what you're comfortable with and if you have a halfway unique name and social you'll leave with it that day.

They just act like a bunch of know it all's. Honestly, though, it's not just Academy. Lots of places are like that.

I just wanted to comment on this. frick yes these people act like this. I didn't grow up with firearms and I wasn't afraid to ask questions. Instead of helping to educate me they just fed their egos. Now that I am more educated I like to stick it to these guys. My favorites are the ones browsing with you and they have to submit their approval for you to view a gun. They get a piece of my mind.

My favorite is when I walk up, tell them what I want, and they try to give me something different.

Holy mother of frick! If I tell you what I want and you have it, let me trade you money for it. Do not interject your shitty opinion if I don't ask for it.

Sorry I missed this yesterday, Boosie - and this board is a wealth of resources, but, in my mind, with your background, a "truck gun" just screamed REVOLVER to me. If I could go back in time and tell you to get a Ruger GP100, or even a Smith L-frame, in .357 magnum - THAT would be my "truck gun". Yeah, it's only 6 or 7 shots, but there is a lot less than can go wrong with a revolver sitting for weeks in a glove box/center console/door slot, etc., than there is with any semi-auto (even a Glock/Sig).

So - if you get a little buyer's remorse - don't sweat it - you can still get out of the gun at some point - but if you're back in the market after moving your revolver to your mom - perhaps another wheelgun is in your future.

(Mrs. Midnight packs a wheelgun, for the record.)

If you get a delay at Academy/NICS, you might as well go elsewhere, if they have the same policies in every state.

Try months-years

But yea, when I do get my "truck gun" it'll be a wheelgun. Probably .357

My next purchase is a revolver just for my truck. Still haven't decided what kind I want to get. Thought about a .357 and loading it with .38s. I'm not a big guy so I don' consider .357 to be my best option.

Impulse on a .357 isn't as bad as many make it out to be. I was 5'7" at 13 years old the first time I shot a .357. Didn't bother me a bit.

I can shoot it but I'm not confident in my accuracy under duress.

Unless you train firing under duress (which most people don't do), then you really can't be confident per se. So, you're not alone.

There are courses that you can take that train you under stressful conditions. Look into it. I've only read up on it, but I'm hoping to take the class in the future.

Practice at a shooting range a few times. All the extra activity will going on around you will make you more comfortable.
Every now and then, take off your ear protection, just so the loud report isn't a surprise.
Revolvers are perfect for what you are trying to do.

Keep in mind, most criminals don't practice shooting at all. There's a good chance you'll be way more accurate.
