I checked that link and saw nothing like that.

Wait, are you talking about people calling striped bass, rock fish? We are not talking about that. Rock bass is a fish like a large bream. Easily confused with goggle eye.

The problem is that cobia wait to get in the boat before they start fighting
True but I base my opinion on catching one while catching specks. It was 26" and fought like a beast

I've heard goggle eyes called rock bass before too.... It's just a nickname that is wrong.... Just like white perch is to sacalait/crappie

That makes sense Tino

I don't know if Amberjack would be the strongest fight, but it would be IMO the hardest/toughest. I've seen those things continue to fight like hell stabbed multiple times and gills ripped out.
Also, I always heard Tarpon were damn tough, but personally
Per pound, gotta give sacalait a vote there somewhere...

quote:Terrible analogy. There are white perch in La. No rock bass though. Oh, and there is no such fish as sacalait. Not here, not anywhere.

There aren't any white perch in Louisiana

I'd put them against anything.

When I was young and lived in South Florida, I used to catch specks, flounder, mangrove snapper, barricuda, and grouper in the mangroves - all in the 1 to 5 pound range. I've caught a few small bonita, AJ, and reds in the 1 to 5 pound range.
Nothing fought harder than a black grouper in the 1 to 5 pound range. That being said -- I've never caught some of the bigger fish being mentioned in this thread in the small size range, so it is hard to compare. It's hard to imagine what a 3 pound tarpon would fight like... likewise, it is hard to imagine what a 50 pound bream would fight like.
SW - grouper.
FW - bream.
<as aside, for initial "damn this is going to be a giant fish" reaction -- even small flounders are hell of a fight. but, once you get them moving, the fight is all gone.>
eta: I've also caught some monster catfish on the Red River just below the spillway just south of Alexandria that absolutely wore my arse out.

White perch, both black and white ones.
Posted on 6/12/12 at 5:13 pm to AlxTgr
So, a white perch and a white crappie aren't the same fish?

i was wondering when someone was going to say mangrove.....they are some fighting mothers. especially when its either you win or the fish wins in the first 5 seconds
