What would your guess be if you had to quantify # of crawfish in Louisiana?

From every farm, ditch, bayou, swamp in the state which I can confirm you can find in every part of the state from Caddo Lake to Bastrop to the Intracoastal. I'm going to guess 50 to 100 billion.

To break it down to more manageable, there are 33 million acres in LA.

Most estimates have the high end per pound at 40 crawfish.

According to the recent article about the Governor's disaster declaration, the state averages between 175 and 200 million lbs of crawfish harvested annually.

That's upwards of 8 billion crawfish IF every pound was 40 crawfish--they aren't.

So the rest of the state would have to contain at least 42 billion crawfish for those numbers to make sense. I seriously doubt that when you consider how much of it is upland pine. And crawfish don't live in saltwater, and upwards of 1 million acres of that 33 million is brackish to saltmarsh.

I’d guess at least 2-3 times that number aren’t harvested. So probably somewhere around 25 billion would be my guess. But who really knows? That’s like trying to guess the number of gar fish in the state lol
