American Eagle 50 grain varmint load (223). Put them in the magazine and cycled a few through manually after I cleaned my AR and 3 came out like this.

I'm guessing/hoping it's just cheap ammo, but wanna make sure nothing's going on with my rifle. I've never had this issue before.

Maybe the magazine has too much pressure?

I have had a few like that but it is due to me leaving the bullet in the Mag and leaving it for a few weeks. I do not/would not shoot those.

I definitely loaded them the right way

Bad crimp/wrong sizing was all I could think of since its cheap ammo. Just wanted to make sure there wouldn't be anything else that could cause it.

Eta- Yeah I only had one box of these so I might just chunk em all. I would't want one going off like that.

Your mag must be different from mine...
I am being told that it is called setback and that they will fire ok.

Magazine shouldn't have anything to do with that, especially just laying around. Probably bad from the factory. If you still have the box they came in I'd call the customer service number and give them the lot # from the box. If you don't have the box, I'd call customer service and complain like a 3 year old in the check out aisle at a grocery store.

I wonder if they'll send me another box if I complain enough.

Not sure I'd want another box, but I'd still complain about it. They may have a recall on certain lot numbers.

The magazine was not fully inserted or the magazine retention is loose and allowing the mag to fall slightly. This makes the round hit the edge of the ramp as is gets pushed forward into the chamber and often will prevent the round from chambering properly.

Well shite. Problem happened at first with a pmag, so I put the rest in the stock magazine and over 2/3 got pushed into the casing

Are you just cycling the rounds by pulling back the charging handle?

I pull back the charging handle, then lock and release the bcg.

This. Had a similiar problem with some black box winchester I tried to cycle through an old AR. FMJ would cycle fine but anything not fmj would snag, and push the round into the brass just like in your picture.

I think you're probably right. It seems to catch where the tip meets the bullet. Ive never had an issue with FMJ's
