Always in the truck: American Classic 4 1/4" 1911 45 ACP. Bought brand new around $400.
Sometimes also in the truck: Kel-Tec P3-AT in 380 ACP. Bought brand new for $250; Kahr CW45 in 45 ACP. Bought brand new for $330.

Last 6 years, stopped carrying a pistol and instead got a cheap Hi-Point 995 carbine.
Short enough to point and fire most any direction one-handed inside the cab. 100% reliable. Greater intimidation factor (to avoid a shooting in the first place). Got the range on somebody else who may have a pistol. Much quieter fired "indoors" than a pistol.
Paid $195 new.
Won't cry if it gets stolen.

Carrying it in and out also increases the chances of not having it when I need it. I accept the risks vs benefits of truck carry.

I've had one in my truck for as long as I can remember. I guess ever since I graduated high school in 96. No problems.
