Limited demand and a ton of options.
Archery shop can only inventory so much. Plus, last year they had a hard time getting inventory.

Simple economics

Exactly. I get my bow serviced at the local shop when it something I'm not set up to do.

But I'm not spending an extra $15-20 on the same target that I can get from Lancaster, Amazon, or Academy. I would rather give my business to a local shop, but not at 25-30% more on that product.

Same thing that has killed mom and pop stores across America.
-Limited inventory
-Online retailers with “unlimited” inventory
-Big box chains with more inventory
-Cheaper prices of online and box chains
-Workers with limited knowledge of the products being sold

I walked in to BR bow shop and they could have easily sold me a bow if they'd have tried. They sat around loitering on their phone then charged me 2 bucks an arrow to cut arrows I was buying there.

Aside from broadheads and a couple of mid tier releases, Academy isn’t selling anything that competes with a dedicated archery shop. Their rests, stabilizers, quivers, and sights are all garbage and they certainly aren’t taking bow sales away from local pro shops

Bills come around every month. Business comes around every 9 months. Very few business men know how to manage the highs and lows of a seasonal business. That and inventory balance. If you have too much, you go out of business, if you have too little you go out of business.

For us in the South it’s weather, gun season and game with an archery season. I feel like bow shops further North are more sustainable due to climate (it’s miserable down here during bow season). Our long gun season is also a problem, northern hunters are forced to maintain quality archery setups due to their seasons. Also, game, the more successful bow shops are in areas where they have a plethora of game like elk and mule deer.
