Oh I'm all over!! We have a camp on Maddox Bay off of the White River that we bought a couple of years ago. Had never hunted the White before, but glad we started. Had a great year last year just from the small amount of scouting that we had time to do. This year it never flooded like we wanted so we ventured up on the Cache a bit. We put in at Clarenden and motored north. Didn't really get on em but could tell it had potential. We ended up getting our flooded timber fix at Bayou Meto. I hadn't been there in 20 years, but it slowly started coming back to me. It ended up saving us. We were getting limits in there even with our limited knowledge of the place. Most of our field hunting is off of the Cache outside of Jonesboro. When it gets a little closer, we need to hook up and compare notes

Okie is where it is at for good Mallard shooting in the Central Flyway.

Have some friends that go every year on a public land trip and have smashed them the last couple of years.

I live north of Tulsa and hunt a bunch of private ponds (2-40 acres). Tons of birds but we don't have a ton of agriculture around us.

I go across the border into kansas quite a bit and do awesome on some private ground. Also spend a lot of time out west deer hunting and the mallards are thick out there if you find water.

We shoot them around the feedlots and hammer them on little cattail holes in the evening.

How did you go about gaining the rights to the private land?

Emporia area. Not a lot of pressure at all. Not a lot of waterfowl hunters locally. Only a couple outfitters in area as well. Geese and ducks everywhere.

Better opportunities in the Crntral Flyway states I've been to. (TX, OK, KA's, & the Dakotas), and while crowded, AR has a lot of public timber so it's automatically better.

I hope that's the case. My parents live in Michigan, I'm going to try to do 2 hunts and take 12 bull canvasbacks. Ok, I'd really be ok with a bird for the wall.

looking at lake st. Clair.

. I know the marsh and I like the marsh. It's home yo.

Nailed it. I've hunted lots of places and each had its own charm, that one thing that makes it special. But growing up in South La and hunting down here will always make it my favorite. Whether it's the marsh out of Bayou Black or Rice Fields south of Lake Charles, this is home and what I was raised on so it will always have an edge. Even if the ducks are more plentiful elsewhere. I don't know that I've ever had a disappointing hunt in South La. Even if I didn't shoot anything.

I completely understand where you're coming from. I'm the same way. The marsh in Southwest La will always be my favorite place to hunt. With that said, I'm to the point where I want to experience some great hunts.

Texas mid-Coast is a pretty cool hunt when timed right. Probably 500k redheads flying around, beaucoup Pintail, and an assortment of other birds.

A lot of the old timers here talk about the days when they'd go out and get 40 drake pintail for 4 men. I can't even fathom. It sucks you can only take 2 now but the pintail's wariness is half the fun in targeting them.

Louisiana is literally one of the worst states to kill ducks in, especially one of the states that is considered "a duck state". Arkansas is where it's at.
