I've seen a few bass caught there. Think the state record came out of there.

Lots of good scenery

A guy I went to high school with caught a 8 lber off of the bank back in 2010 or so. He threw it back and all the old guys fishing on their buckets were mad at him for it.

My cousin and I found an old dingy sail boat after Gustav and we ended up sinking on it in the lake by the urec.

This. Make a married man lose a bait real quick not paying attention to where he's casting.

Bass, bream, gar, and a grennel or 2. They are pretty shallow for the most part and the fishing is meh at best.

I am left with bank fishing for the most part, as I dont own a boat, and I'm starved of any decent spots in BR or within 30' drive to bass fish.

Always went hoping to catch bass.

Always ended up catching crabs for some strange reason...

Those days have come and gone. It’s silted in to the point you could walk across it in most places in shorts and never get them wet. It gets a major fish kill every two or three years due to the depth and runoff causing algae. LDWF stocks it so there’s always a bass or two being caught along the bank but it’s in rough shape. There’s a plan that’s been drawn up to do major renovations and dredging, and use the dredged material to build parks along a few banks, but in three or four years it hasn’t gotten past the fundraising phase.

Get a license. Know someone who was ticketed by LDWF for no license.

I got a ticket out there when I was in school around 02-04 for no license. Got a new rod and reel and went out there to just cast it a few times to try it out. Wasn’t even trying to catch anything.

I've seen old timers catch gar and carp.

I've caught a few bass.

I once saw a few guys tear up the bass with live crawfish under a cork. I was driving buy and saw a bent rod so I pulled over to see what he had. 4lb bass.
They caught steady for 15 minutes then it died.
Guy said he had it down to a science.

State record was out of those lakes. Some guy was using an antique lure he found in his dad's tackle box.

They’ve been talking about that I was in undergrad. Did some research in the lakes. We’ll get a berm at the Box before they dredge the lake.

Yep, my understanding is the amount of cypress stumps makes it a massive project. Frustrating though, those small parks are always packed. People use the hell out of it as is, and right there adjacent to campus it could be a really nice feature if they somehow ever got this done.
