when I was about 14 my dad and I were hunting together. he shot a doe in a deep bottom and was driving it out on the four wheeler when he hit a stump and flipped the bike over on top of him. He practically ripped his nose off his face and broke his arm in several places(still has bolts and shite in his arm). I had to drive to the hospital. When we got there he said he was fine and told me to go back and get the deer.

Shucked all my clothes to swim a deep canal in Ouachita Game Reserve in January 1997 in 24 degree weather to fetch the last 2 green heads for our 4 man limit. Damn near couldn't muster the stupidity to swim back across with the ducks. My dick didn't reappear for a week or so.

We were fishing outside the Fourchon jetties and a waterspout fired up about 1/2 mile away. We ran back to Charlie Hardison's and when we looked back we realized there was a second waterspout in the middle of the bayou. We had come very close to it because we were so busy watching the first one. The second waterspout proceeded to come onto land in the oil service boat docks and was throwing stuff (including a boat) all over the place. It was coming towards us and things were pretty hairy before until we could see it was going to pass us to the north. The now tornado proceeded to Grand Isle where it did some damage.
We've been caught by some pretty horrific storms in the marsh; I really hate being the tallest object while lightning is hitting everywhere.

My brother had two big does on my old rancher and was runnn belly down on a long gravel drive when an 8 point jumped in front of him. Buddy was behind him in a truck. Said when the dust settled there were two deer carcasses, my brother and a crushed Rancher scattered across the road with an 8 point limping away.

Had a small yearling just before daylight sneak up on me while I was sitting up against a tree. Wish I had seem it coming. It got within arms reach just to my 5 O Clock position.
I had a hog once come walking from my right that was going to pass right in front of me. I was on the ground against a tree and waited ready to kick the shite out of him and knock him down the bank into the dry slough. As soon as he got right up to me, he turned. I wanted to kick him so bad. He went into a briar patch and I flushed him out later for the young kid that was hunting with us that day.

The guys on my lease dont believe me but I had a coyote stalk me last year. Well, he stalked my boot I think.
I was late season hunting ro a big buck I had seen on a relatively open field. My stand was about 280 yards from where I had seen him and that morning it was sleeting and reducing visibility. I decided to just sit on the ground in a small clump of shrubs. I cut a few branches off of the brush and staked them in the groudn infront of me and leaned back against a small tree. Shortly after sunrise, a coyote crested the hill. I watched him for a few seconds and based on his relaxed behavior knew that I could adjust my legs for comofort without spooking a watching deer. When I moved my foot he stopped in dead trot and stared in my direction. Then he crossed the field from left to right and then back again trying to scent me I think, but the wind was in my face. Then aligning in the middle of the field and about 120 yards out he began to slowly stalk in complete with crouched postion. The closer he got the lower he got. Since my rifle was already shouldered and resting on shooting stick, I decided to encourage him. I twitched my boot slightly. He focused in on it and at about 50yrds out he started to crawl very delibrately at my boot. At 40 yards I flipped the saftey off on the 308. At 30 yards he stood and bolted toward me ears laid back. Luckily for both of us at 20 yards he realized he had made a mistake and exited stage right.

When I think about all the crazy stuff that has happened to me and all the crap I have torn up over the years, I question how I have gone through relatively unscathed.

No crap, I have done some stupid stuff! fortunately for me I have only had to pay for that stupidity with my wallet and not my arse.

Never bury a shotgun shell up to the brass, then shoot the primer with a .22. Just don't do it.

how much shrapnel needed to be removed?

Brass hit me in the thigh. The bruise was epic. Too bad I did not own a camera back then.

or someone you know while in the woods or on the water?
Surfing a swell from a tropical depression at Fourchon jetties. I guess there was a dead zone just offshore because the water was TEEMING with fish and lots of crabs nipping at my toes. I'd just kicked out of a wave and was paddling back out...I was hitting the fish under my board with my forearms and hands as I paddled. About that time a big mullet jumped onto my board, between my legs, and proceeded to wiggle up my shorts--HIYOOOO!
Was hunting Catahoula Lake on a really cold morning. The blind was secured with nylon ropes to stakes at the front and rear. There was a huge ice flow in front of the blind, about an acre in size, and a couple hundred yards away. Shortly after shooting time the wind picked up and the ice got closer...
and closer...
and closer...
...when it was about 20 yards away we decided to bail. Got into the boat but it took us a few minutes to get it started and by that time the ice was grinding into the front of the blind, the blind was starting to dip down where the ice was hitting it and the ropes and stakes were stretching and bending. We pulled out of the blind, the stakes gave way and the blind got carried away with the ice.

Or shoot a golf ball with a pellet gun.

That EXACT same thing happened to me and a friend in the late 80's. We had walked out to a blind and had no boat. It was crazy. Old blinds were being knocked down left and right. I was pretty scared on the walk out. My buddy had on Red Wings. I was thinking he was going to lose his feet.

Yep. This would have been between '86 and '89, can't remember what year exactly. It sucked because there were a lot of ducks in the air and it was my first time to hunt the lake. Before that I'd always hunted the flooded timber in Greentree.
