What is the best shot for teal?

I've heard #6 or 7 1/2 steel, but this seems too small to me. I want to start loading up before my hunt in September and was going to go with #4. I'll hang-up to eagerly await the wisdom of the ODB sages.

If it is only a teal hunt, I go with 3" #4.

Lead #6s low brass is plenty to kill teal. If they are coming in tight you should move to a sawed off with #9s. Remember to have another gun loaded and ready to kill cripples. The point is to stop flight then let the hunters and dogs do the rest of the work. A good scoped .22 is also valuable if the boogers start landing wide of your spread. This also makes for great entertainment by shooting nutria, water turkey, and other creatures that are brave enough to croos your path.

My go-to is 2 3/4" #4's solely bc it's cheaper than the 3" counterpart with negligible loss in effectiveness on a bird that's thin on the early season feathers and fat. You can go with 6's also which makes for a little bit more dense pattern, but, smaller shot sizes tend to hide a lil better in the meat and more prone to surprising your teeth. I ilike your style, start getting ready now! good luck

7 1/2 lead is the ticket, and cause for a ticket.
