That's about the age my dad bought me one. He didn't let me loose alone with it for a year or two.

Biggest issue will be him being able to shoulder it properly. Hell I remember the stock of a red rider being too long for one of my kids. I took it to the chop saw and problem solved.

I bought both of my sons B.B. guns the day the ultra sounds indicated they had peckers

his rational is that whatever you shot, you were going to kill, not just sting it with a BB

My son is 4 and has a red rider. He knows what to shoot and what not to shoot and how to use the safety on the gun. He struggled cocking it at first so I had him putting the barrel down on the cement and not the stock to keep the barrel out his face.
He goes outside alone and does some serious damage to the minnows in the ditch. In all honesty it’s just how much they are around that type of stuff. My son never leaves my side when I’m outside and I take him to do almost everything I do.

Wanted to update this thread.. got him the gun a month or so ago, and he was thrilled. He couldn’t wait to get home to shoot it, but it’s just too long for him now. When he shoulders the gun, he can’t reach the trigger with his index finger, so when he holds it to where he can get his finger on the trigger, it’s too cockeyed for him to be able to aim..
I was considering chopping off some of the stock for him, but I guess I’ll just let him grow into it. Didn’t think I’d have this problem, he’s taller than most of the 5 year olds in his class

sounds like he needs some more meat and potatoes. don't forget the greens either and add some bacon grease to fatten him up some. Only a matter of time before he's dropping them like flies, also make sure he kills only mockingbirds they are evil (kinda kidding they are illegal)... you got him a fishing rod and reel yet?
