I don't have a link but I have heard that Weyerhaeuser may be reversing its stance on deer hunting with dogs on its leased properties. I am told that in the a Weyerhaeuser outdoors fall 2016 newsletter it stated that a new policy was forthcoming and implied that it would be allowing deer hunting with dogs back. anyone actually read this newsletter or have any info?

(sorry if germans... I can't get my search function to work. if there is a recent thread on this, please direct me and I will ask that this one be deleted.)

I haven't read it yet. I have just been told about the content of the newsletter. I am trying to find a link but to no avail.

I was told the same thing last weekend by some pretty reputable sources.

I don't see what the big deal is with dog hunting. If done right, it can be tons of fun and not intrude on the neighbors. I'm thinking when they bring it back, the dog hunters will be a little more cautious of their actions since they now see how easily it can be taken away from them.

I think dog hunting is great, but I think too many of the people who hunt dogs have left a bad taste in everyones mouth.

are your reputable sources within Weyerhaeuser, the Louisiana sportsmans alliance group, or some other organization? i have been told this too even before this apparent newsletter came out, but not from anyone that is actually part of the decision making process...

Just some guys from my dog running lease. I can't remember exactly how the conversation went, but I wanna say they said there was a new big wig at Weyerhaeuser that is pro dog hunting. The guy that was saying this is the president of our club and keeps up with all this type stuff.

Back to guy's doing it the right way...we have a strict policy of no big dogs whatsoever on our lease. We had some guys invited by a member last weekend to hunt, they showed up with a box full of walkers on Saturday morning and were asked to leave. I felt bad for the guys getting up early and driving out to Oil City and they couldn't even leave their dogs in the box at the camp while they hunted.

thanks, reb beer... i have been hearing the same thing from guys in our lease; but nothing "official" until this newsletter came out. i guess we shall see. but what i heard coincides with what you have apparently been told... has something to do with merger between Weyerhaeuser and plum creek resulting in a new man overseeing this area and being pro dog hunting. i guess we shall see...

I hope not.

I hunt 80 acres and know those bastards are gonna go right across it.

I deal with Weyerhaeuser regularly on non-hunting related issues. They recently completed a large acquisition of all the Plum Creek Timberlands holdings. My contacts tell me, as could be reasonably expected, the transition is a major cluster. No one is quite sure what's going on and who's responsible for what.

I agree.

I got a nice little island of 60 acres of hardwood surounded by pine plantations. And don't want dogs running all through it.

I've got six pieces of equipment that Plum Ceek owes three years, been dealing with FiFi Washington trying to get some answers but no one has a clue what's going on.

God I hope not , the dog runners on our lease don't have respect for anyone or anything , the year before Weyerhaeuser cut it out we voted to not run dogs that year and we have killed more and seen more good bucks every year since ,

The rumors are exactly from that. A lot of the old plum creek leases are dog clubs. I imagine there will be some grandfather clause put into place the allows the previous plum creek leases that were dog club to still continue on for a period of time.
Like it or not, dog hunting is being phased out on leased properties. Weyehauser started the ball rolling when they implemented it. It will continue down this path until state and federal laws make it impossible to hunt nearly anything with a dog. It's the sad fact of the reality.

I hate to hear this.

We have family property surrounded on 3 sides by a hunting club full of "if it's brown it's down" yahoo's who ran dogs all over our property for 40 years until Weyerhaeuser shut their asses down. All of a sudden they went to a six point or bigger rule.

I've been told 1,000 times buy some tobacco chewing redneck "them dogs can't read son".

I did like hearing them run when they were coming my way though

Good luck, the dog hunters have nearly ruined still hunts in Franklin County. No respect or regard for private property rights.
