On call again. Damn I'm tired. 8 admissions, 5 unfunded, 3 surgeries, and a delivery.

At least I found time to get the boys out with their rods.

An I am a hospitalist in addition to other things I do.

I've seen y'all mention it, but what is a hospitalist?

I have a good Idea of what it is but would like to hear the official definition from one of the OB docs.

Typically a hospitalist is a doc who only does inpatient hospital work as a primary care doc. Usually a FP or Internist.

They are the physician of admission for patients who do not have a doctor working in that hospital.

In some rural areas primary docs have started to pull away from hospital work and as a result left openings for hospitalists. In some of the communities a portion of the primary docs take on the role of hospitalist in addition to their normal duties.

They just see people in the hospital. No clinic. So if I admit someone the hospitalist takes care of them while they are inpatient then I resume care after discharge. I still have say so and oversight over mine. Basically ours just do the paperwork for me.

Married guys there might be hope...

Unexcited? There May Be a Pill for That

quote:

The pills were either a placebo or a new drug called Lybrido, created to stoke sexual desire in women.

quote:

With the drug, she said, “I wanted to have sex even after we had sex. I would feel horny, and I got like a throbbing sensation, like I had to do something or it was going to bother me all night. I would just want more.” When I asked how her husband felt about her taking the medication, she laughed."Happy,” she said.

quote:

Tuiten published some results from small, preliminary trials in the March issue of The Journal of Sexual Medicine. His full data, which he has just finished tabulating and will soon be taking to the F.D.A., show Lybrido bestowing unmistakable benefits in desire — and in rates of orgasm. (The outcomes for Lybridos aren’t thoroughly compiled, but he says that early results look about as positive.) Tuiten is confident that the F.D.A. will send him to do another larger set of trials, which will involve about 1,200 subjects. Plenty of drugs fail at that stage of replication. But if all goes well, by 2016, Lybrido and Lybridos might be on the market.

There are multiple models that hospitalists fit into but the main principal is they do no clinic.

The ones not associated with local docs and/or working for a large staffing company have little to no commitment to patient care. The ones working with local docs and an integrated team approach with ancillary services can have significant beneficial impact.
