Anyone use any of the new smaller HVLP hand held sprayers ? Are they better than the ones on the marker years ago ? (used to have one and it sucked) I just need something to do a bit of painting, not large enough to buy or ever rent an airless.

I have a Power Painter Plus (I think that's the name)....I've used it twice and both times putting a sealer on my fence. I thought it was a little messy BUT it was outside and even when I didn't think there was wind, there probably was. It did a good job but got heavy after awhile. Clean-up wasn't bad.

They still suck, jut bought one this winter. Works great the first time, but they don't clean easily and just a little dried paint renders them almost useless.

Get a Graco Truecoat 360 VSP. I have had one for three years now and it is still going great after about 40 gallons of paint through it. Clean it well and run the blue compressor saver liquid through it when you are done and it will last you a while.

Not true. I got a Wagner sprayer to stain my fence, it took me 2-3 weeks of using, cleaning, reusing. Worked flawless every time.

I got a Graco Project Painter a few years ago, great little machine for what little painting I do. Got a pressure feed roller and some of the new low-pressure tips.

OP, how much painting you plan on? Do you have a air compressor? Harbor Freight has a small spray gun that works outstanding. The cup on it only holds about a pint. Cost on sale under $10. Been using the crap out of the two I have. One for paint and the other for Varnish.

Stain maybe different, it's thinner right? Just saying for paint they suck. Any tiny piece of paint clogs them and they are not easy to clean.

The large airless sprayers are super easy to clean a clog. You simply turn the tip around and spray it out. The Wagner hand helds you have to take it apart which sucks with it full of paint.

Also, it's an absolutely joke they make the cord 6 inches long. All to save money, but there's a better way to do it. Even if you knot the extension cord at the attachment it's a pita having that right there and it still becomes undone.

Do have an air compressor and have thought about the HF sprayer that FishFighter mentions, but that paint hopper is small. Might give it a shot anyway and report back. Thanks for the feedback all

Well you're supposed to thin paint to run it in the sprayer. It comes with a viscosity cup that you use to ensure its thinned enough.

The cord on mine is several feet?

I've been using them for a couple of years for household projects (trim, cabinets, doors). I do find that the newer models spit less. They are a pain in the butt to clean but they do a pretty good job.

Don't expect a super smooth finish. There will be a slight texture once your paint dries.

For the past two years, I've been using a HomeRight Finish Max. I've used it to spray acrylic paint, latex paint, chalk paint, stain and polyurethane. I've never used a Wagner, so I can't compare. But this is a great gun for the price.

My aunt wrapped her deck in wood lattice and she asked me to paint it. Painting by hand would have been a test in patience, so I went to Harbor Freight and bought there electric sprayer that is similar to the Wagner. I think I paid about $20 for it. Sprayed on the first coat, half assed cleaned it, put it in a plastic bag, waited about 4 hours, sprayed second coat, and then threw it away.

It worked OK for this one time use. The $20 was well worth the time and aggravation it saved.

Seconded. I read a lot of reviews before buying and the Graco Truecoat was a no-brainer over the Wagner.

Yup and you get 2 different tips with it. I used the 4" tip for all of the trim in the house and the 12" for everything else. When it is cranked up to 10, it will throw a LOT of paint. Unless I have a big job out of a 5 gallon bucket, I rarely pull out my LTS anymore. I do change my tips after about 15 gallons though.
