Is this a good scope for $158? Ive heard good things about Vortex but don't really know anything about them.

Probably one of the absolute best scopes for that price range.
I'm looking at the Viper series for my build, but they offer some of the best bang for your buck on the market

Buy it. Great scope, incredible scope when you consider the price range. Transferable lifetime unconditional warranty. It falls out of your tree stand and something breaks, send it back. You'll get a new one, no questions asked. Its not just a warranty against manufacture defects, it's really nice.

I recently bought a new rifle. I put the crossfire 2 6x18 on it. I got it for $200 off of amazon. I always buy vortex but I wanted to try their cheapest model to see how it performed. Its fantastic for the price. Not sure what the difference is in the diamondback and the crossfire 2 outside of Argon and Nitrogen. You wont be disappointed with it.

Get the Viper. I grew up with a father that shot low end scopes,as soon as I built my first AR, I put a viper on it. Absolutely love the scope. No, it's not a Night Force, but the bang for your buck is awesome.

Which viper you put on your AR?
I have a SPARC 2 on mine. I like the red dot but at times I want a scope. Thinking of getting a larue mount so I can flip back and forth. I was looking at the strike eagle 1x6.

Y'all think the vortex is better than the Nikon p223?

Interested to hear what you consider low end? I guess you were raised a little more privileged than me because I considered low end a $30 simmons. I never thought someone with a $200 nikon was low end.....jmho

I think so. I was at a buddies the other day and he had one laying around. I looked through it. Glass seemed ok for what you pay. It wasn't on a gun so I didn't try it out. Not sure on Nikon's warranty but you can't beat the vortex warranty. For that alone I'd go vortex.

I recently had a ar built and put the strike eagle 1x6 on it. Absolutely love it, I myself didn't know much about vortex optics but had heard good things and now I have to agree.

Yes, I would take the Vortex

By low end, I meant the Simmons and Tasco I grew up with on my dads bolt action rifles.
When I built my AR-10, I decided I was going to splurge and put some decent glass on it. I bought the FFP Viper PST 6-24×50 with the EBR-1 MOA reticle. Vortex isn't anywhere near the top of the market when it comes to glass, but it is the nicest scope I have ever owned. Not sure how I came across privileged with my reply the first time, didn't mean to if I did.
