Looking to take a tuna trip between October- November. Who are your preferred captains and when do you expect the tuna to move in a little? Hoping not to ride 90 miles.

Peace is the man for tuna

Peace is the master but is one weird sob. Plenty other solid guides if you can't get Peace as I think he is booked all through fall.

I spent one night listening to verrryyyy interesting stories from one of his old deck hands

I don't doubt that one bit. lol

You better make a decision and book ASAP. For October trip you are already late. Eddie berger is really good but not the most courteous guy on the planet. Super strike is cool but you don't catch as well as with berger. Peace is pretty good and fun guy as well so I think. Prolly booked already tho.

Mexican Gulf Fishing--Kevin Beach, Billy Wells, Jordan Ellis, all top notch!
I have fished with all of them for many years; best out of Venice

That's a bold statement, Eddie Burger is hard to beat. There are numerous excellent Captains in Venice, but if you haven't booked October or November months ago good luck finding a spot with a good one.

I second Mexican Gulf. We fished with Kevin a couple of years ago and Jordan was still his deckhand. They are both great guys. We had fun and caught a bunch of fish.

Went with Billy Wells Monday, caught Yellows when no one else was.
Left them biting because the nine we had were bigger than anyone else's, and we had too much meat already.
Also Freeman's are the shite.

I recently fished with Michael Pittman who captains with Eddie Burger. Very good captain and knew his stuff. But beware, a lot of the captains apparently book several charters and then pass the clients to other captains (how we ended up with Captain Pittman). Happened to me personally and have read several stories that happened to others. It may be common practice, but was a complete surprise to me.

Eddie Berger
Caught zero fish with him. He did not give a crap. Was in a bad mood the entire time.
I do not recommend.

Anyone but relentless sportfishing charters.

Hunter Caballero seems to do pretty good in those Venice tournaments against those other captains. But like others have stated, going to be tough to find someone open the next month.

I was in Venice last week and I saw boat loads of tuna at the docks. The weather wasn't favorable either.

As many have stated there aren't many bad captains down there. I would put Peace, Eddie Berger, Hunter Caballero and Mexcian Gulf all on about the same level. Any given day they typically all have good days with one being a bit better than the other.
On a side note in October the tuna fishing gets crazy, if you have offshore tackle and a bay boat and pick your day tuna from a bay boat is more than do able.

Chasing fall shallow water tuna is doable in a bay boat. However, be advised that you better be on your A game out there. Take the precautions with your equipment and weather and so forth. Seasoned fisherman out of Venice can handle a bay boat tuna trip but it can be dangerous for greenhorns.

Peace and mexican gulf are the tops.
Peace has been catching at least one sword a day deep dropping if you want one of those bad mfers.
