Just freaking wild that you were in that position and this dude pulled that shite last night. And that this is even a discussion being had. Stupid, and people are getting crazier.

You remember the crazy a-hole last year that made the bomb threats and then drove his SUV into the Hammond Target and started yelling he had a bomb?

I had just left the store with my nine year old daughter. We were in a heated discussion because I wouldn’t let her go back and look at toys before we checked out when I started seeing every cop in Hammond hauling arse down the access road. Had I allowed her to go back and look, we would’ve been standing at the self checkout closest to that door when the guy drove thru.

The Target situation strikes me as different from the one posted by the OP. In the Target incident, one could make a good case of fearing for the life of yourself or daughter (the guy already demonstrated he's extremely violent, he's yelling threats and you're in close proximity w/ your young daughter) and justifying a shoot. OTOH, in the situation presented by the OP, I think the best action would be a quick repeat while being prepared if the "bomber" does something to escalate the situation. As presented in the article, I wouldn't personally use lethal force and think that doing so would be risky from both a criminal and civil law standpoint.

As far as retreating, whether your state has a "stand your ground" law or not should not be a factor. In many situations, there's no shame in retreating to a safe environment, thereby avoiding a potential lethal shooting that will put you at the mercy of the criminal system, as well as the civil system. Actually, w/ most shootings, a civil suit is probably more of a threat to the shooter than are criminal charges.

seems like deadly force is justified if the deadly force triangle is there; Weapon, opportunity, and action
I'm curious - whose CCW class did you take (I'm assuming you took one) ?

I did, but that’s not from ccw class. That’s from my le training.

ETA: I’m not sure if you’re trying to have a gotcha moment or not, but most of my statements as far as using deadly force are hypotheticals and include the subject having an action, hence the deadly force triangle of weapon, opportunity, and action.

Shot him dead to leave no witnesses the, you can finish him off with shots to the back etc. Call the police and say you were in immediate and imminent fear of your life and were forced to defend yourself. You are golden. (As long as you are white middle class)

Don’t believe me, I have handled this case 3 times so far on both sides. Zero indictments.
