I hunt on family land in SW MS, but was invited a few years ago to hunt with a friend at his company's lease.

They told me does were fine and the rules on bucks.

First evening hunt I shot a massive 10 point, the biggest live deer I had ever seen.

When I drove it back to the camp that evening the 6 or 7 guys that were there acted like I shot their mother. I remember almost feeling guilty that I shot it, and hunting shouldn't be like that. frick those old jealous bastards, hunting is 90% luck anyway, and that just happened to be my lucky day.

That skull mount picture does it no justice, looks like a 115” deer.

I wouldn’t say all that, but I definitely would’ve shoulder mounted him. If I remember right, the OP preferred the skull mount because they last/look good for a longer amount of time than a shoulder mount does. To each his own, and I think it’s absurd to kick a man out of a hunting club for not mounting a deer the way you would’ve mounted it. Grown men can act like children over a deer.

People like that are absolute envious losers.

Hunting is not a competition, it's not the olympics, there are no prizes.

I'm always happy for my fellow hunter when they do well, at least someone does something.

I recenlty purchased 210 acres in East Texas and my goal for the property is to be as family/friendly as possible. Shoot whatever you want, as long as everyone is safe have at it.

Hunting in the south, especially Louisiana, is extremely competitive. I’ve found that hunting clubs are by far the worst, most toxic places to hunt too. I strictly hunt public these days all around the state and the majority of people I run into are friendly and always congratulate you if you kill a deer. I was shocked the first time I went to the Midwest. The locals are allowed to leave their stands on public land all season, and I’ve run into at least 3 different locals up there that told me I was more than welcome to hunt their stands if they weren’t there. I guess it’s a different culture up there.

It’s the same in south Mississippi. I was in a club for about 4 years to give the kids other options to hunt. I pulled my last stand from there Saturday. We will just hunt our 90 acres at home and enjoy ourselves. The club was nice at first but had gotten too petty for me.

Can relate. Been in a hunting club in MS for the past 7-8 years. My brother, father, myself, and uncle got on the lease with 10 other guys from MS. The last 5-6 years we got real serious as all of us (my family) had finally gotten jobs where we could hunt 90% of the season and not have to be on the road. We unassed a total of probably $12,000-$15,000 last year between building new stands, feeders, cams, feed, crops, gas, repairs etc... We hunted damn near every Wednesday-Sunday all hunting season and had the MS boys bitch and complain about how much we hunted and how we were "taking over" their lease. We paid all of our dues, plus more and invested into this club, we had just as much right as the next guy to hunt as much as we pleased legally. It almost became a LA vs MS thing there at the end and they tried locking us out once we said we weren't joining again. We got all of our stuff off the lease but it was such a shite show at the end there. They also cried about what we harvested 24/7 out of jealousy and envy. (I shot a 7 year old 10 point, 8 year old 8 point, and a 3 does in the span of the last 3 years.)

Reasons I'll never join another lease with a bunch of slapdicks who won't put in the work but wil be the first to complain. Now i'm on a lease in Arkansas with my in-laws and couldn't be happier.

I got in one about 5-6 years ago that 4 of my coworkers were in. They talked some trash about how I thought I was a great deer hunter but they said I wouldn’t kill anything there. I took it as a challenge and joined. Huge mistake. All pipeline stands in the club were club stands. That turned into certain pipeline stands being “my stand” or “so and so’s stand” and “you better not be hunting my (pipeline) stand”. The drama started spilling over into the workplace, so I went back to the public about halfway through the season. Never again.

Not knocking the deer just the picture. haha

There’s WAY less pressure on public lands I hunt in MS than the club we in.

Wife myself and 1 of my 2 boys are members of a 2700 acre club. It gets pounded from Monday-Sunday by the retired fellas and us weekend warriors.

We leased 120 acres near our camp just for us 4 to hunt and shoot what we want.

I spend WAY too much $ on leases/clubs for family but if it keeps them coming then so be it. I rather hunt public.

Just looking out for you sir. I trust most of the folks on the Outdoor board not to be jerks, but you still don't want that out there.

One quote from my dad I'll never forget

Good one.

Mine has always been "You wanna see men turn into women, join a country club or hunting camp"
