No clue. Just know it's a good boat.

Check out the sportsman. A friend of mine has one and enjoys it for what you desire. Can handle a trip out to the first line of rigs out of grand isle as well.

Do not get a Skeeter. You should be able to get an 18ft Nautic Star with a 115 for about 25000. Dockside in Bogalusa has good prices. I got price from them and Aquamarine in NOLA agreed to get close to it so I bought it locally.

Have you considered or looked at any of the aluminum boats?

With the type of fishing you are describing I would definitely give them a hard look.

The Xpress bay boats are really popular.

You definitely get more fishing space per dollar with aluminum rigs.

for the places I fish, sure am

My boat is a 19 Mako, but it has a deep V. I can go all the places you go in your dad's boat.

to the OP, all the bay boats mentioned the most in this thread are not deep V boats and IMO cannot handle the bays adequately without a little more length. Your budget is enough to get you all you need and more (if you go used). If you are worried about spending money on gas, I can't see how you are willing to spend $32K on a boat.

I have looked at the Xpress boats as well. I like that the hulls can def take more of a beating. I dislike that I feel more of that beating. They seem to have started supplying jump seats as well. I do like the H20 bay and it has a good price. Its a hard sell for my wife though because her dad had an Xpress that he she only remembers him having a bad experience with. (He tells me a diff story lol) So my wife is unusually jaded against Xpress for no good reason.

I have a xpress hb 20 wit the hyperlift hull and it rides very well for aluminium. My buddy has a 22' epic and he loves the ride of my xpress. Not all ride like shite. Don't get me wrong it's not a high dollar fiberglass rig but it has caught more fish than most of them big fancy boats I see fishing by me lol

I also run to timbalier, and open bays in chop with no problem...

I didn't know Mako made a 19 foot deep v. What model do you have? Do you have any issues fishing flat marsh?

That's just the max Im willing to spend. If I can get a used boat that Im looking for 23k of course I will jump on that first.

I totally agree. I paid $10K for my Mako 6 years ago and it eats up chop like nobody's business. I'll never understand why people spend that much on a fancy boat that I'm going to dog out anyway.

It's a CC, but a 1998 year 19.1 hull.

Of course. I can't fish in less than 1.5 feet of water.

You'll never understand why some people want a big, comfortable, fast, dry boat? I don't think my mom would fish as much if she didn't have the comforts that my dads boat offers her.

Put or shut up for the Challenge--that is, of course, if Daddy will let you use the boat.

I fish a 19ft Nautic Star and go out to Bay Eloi and Black Bay with no problem. If it is that rough that a 19 footer will have trouble out there you won't be catching fish anyway. Everybody wants a bigger boat, but you need the boat that fits what you are looking for and what you can afford. You can get into the deep Biloxi Marsh with this boat also except when cold fronts have blown the water out. I can easily get into Muscle Bay, Pete's, Cutoff, etc. in the fall and for reds in the summer. You do not need a 24 foot boat to do what you want to do.

Not everybody can swing a 22' pathfinder.

A 22' xpress probably handles chop better than a 17' fiberglass job, and you can bring more friends fishing.

haven't fished in the 20 ft Skeeter. Now I know Skeeter makes a good boat but the thing that jumped out to me when looking at the Skeeters was the hull.

It looks like more of a bass boat hull underneath without as much of a deep V compared to other bay boats. I'm sure that will make it faster and skinnier but not so sure for crossing choppy bays.

Maybe someone who owns one can give some personal insight.

I have a ZX22 and you're right. It's very fast, gets really shallow, and handles like a go kart. That being said, it's a pretty wet boat, and you get knocked around pretty good on bigger days. 80% of the boat's hours came from Lake P. It's fished out and all around Breton Sound, and fished out in the Mississippi Sound a few times. While I've only been scared in it a couple times, I've gotten my arse kicked plenty.

One of my good friends (He actually owns Dockside Marine in Bogalusa, and I highly recommend them like earlier poster said. Good prices and good service.) ran a 24 Skeeter for a while, and that extra 2ft makes such a huge difference. I love the fishability and the layout of the Skeeter, so it outweighs the pretty big con of having a shallow hull.

Great boat.

I can think of but one application where I would really ever think about cutting across a large lake or bay. I wouldn't mind being able to launch at the Rigolet's and cut across Lake Borgne to Biloxi Marsh. Have always just launced at Hopedale or Rigolets so never really thought it over or attempted it.

You can do anything you want to do in a 19ft boat. The real issue is whether you can do it as OFTEN as you want to. That's something only you can answer.

You won't have a problem crossing Borgne in a 19ft boat so long as you pick your days. Borgne and the Rigolets (yes, the pass) can kick up high in a hurry though, so learn the area and play close attention to the weather and wind when you fish. In my not so learn-ed days, I crossed Borgne in a 16ft boat with a 30 tiller.
