I like the YouTuber that does everything primitive. Shelters, primitive ceramics, smelting iron from surface iron oxide deposits...one baw that could survive starting with nothing.

LINK

(Modern day) Original primitive survivalist Dick Proeneke. He’s featured on a few PBS fundraising shows.

He was an interesting guy. Could build almost anything and do it well. It’s amazing how much of it he videoed ( well filmed in his day) even though he was doing a lot of it alone. And this was before anybody really was into watching any of this.

Not something I would want to do. Not appealing to me to spend 2 yrs without my kids and my podnuhs in the outdoors. Now give me my dog my kids an podnuhs and we would be cooking a gumbo out of an iron ore pot I smelted.

Yeah no doubt, if he truly was a city folk type of person I can see where the allure is. As for me I don’t care if I ever use non powered tools again.

I find these people interesting but I would probably go insane. I'm honestly not an extremely social person but 3 days alone at the camp and I'm starting to get antsy. I've done a week before and was ready to GTFO about day 5.

It became very evident to me that I like being around others when I busted my head on the low door entrance. If others had been around it would've painful but also hilarious. Being alone for no one to notice, it was just painful. That's when it really sunk in.

Truthfully, Shawn isn't alone at all. Now, he did build the cabin alone and with primitive tools. That's 100% true. The place is amazing. He's added an outdoor kitchen I think everyone here should see. It's its own playlist. Also built a sauna and shower. He's about to add another outbuilding for guests/relatives etc.

His wife and daughters visit frequently. As do guys like Doug Linker, Joe Robinet and a bunch of other youtube bushcraft guys. His dog Cali is awesome. They do some very cool canoe trips. The channel,is totally worth a look. Very well done.

Some things don't add up in the first 10 minutes, first he has pre fab wood. Cut boards for the roof but has to cut trees to make the rest.

Supposedly he's been out there long enough to build 3/4ths of a house but is grilling a prime steak

I'm calling bullsheet - this dude is going to Home Depot every afternoon

Yeah not really alone it appears that he must make several trips to restock, unless he built a water jet cutter for that sign on the cabin. Don’t get me wrong he’s a craftsman but so was Tim the took time Taylor.
Drop that sucker off in the wilderness with a knife gun and axe with no resupply then maybe it’s s show!! Actually never mind it’s been done for the last 2000 or so years

Smelted that’s in episode 12 where i discover how to extract the iron from the iron ore and make the cast iron pot that Coon-asses so dearly cling to.
It’s a new concept post copper age

I watch that guys videos. His channel is my self reliance and another where he talks more called the Shawn James channel.

He isn't saying he lives totally alone. He has a wife and daughters. He has a snowmobile. He goes to town to buy stuff regularly. In his truck.

What his channel is about is his self reliance. He doesn't try to trick you on his channels. He is learning as he goes and is trying to become more and more self reliant.

He used precut lumber on his roof. At this point now he is cutting any lumber using a chainsaw. His steak was probably moose. He hunts and fishes to provide a lot of his food. He wants to cut back more and more on relying on the outside world for stuff.

Exactly. In his videos he even describes harvesting the wood for the project prior to build. The roof lumber, he milled himself using an Alaskan chainsaw mill. Other than that, he's pretty much constructed everything using what he believes is self-reliance. I've enjoyed his channels for a long while. Very inspiring truthfully.
