Worth the short drive from BR? I've never been, and finding in-depth description online hasn't been easy.

I was planning on heading out there sometime in early spring. How challenging is the hike? Could I take my 8 yr old?

Not challenging. Don't go after a rain, too muddy.

Totally worth it. Some of the best scenery close to BR. Wait till spring and bring a bathing suit. I remember some creeks and small waterfalls.

Really nice. Terrain that you won't see anywhere else in La. Really neat sunken roads in the loess, clear creeks and a few waterfalls. For a bunch of waterfalls go farther north to Pond, MS to Clark Creek scenic area.

Can't wait until then. So toting my son along is reasonable?

also note, go to LDWF website, and they have WMA maps, that includes the trails. Not great, but they do show the locations of the trails.

If you want to get involved in more hiking, go to www.hikelouisiana.org

They do a hike every month, and go out of state a good bit.

We took my nephew who was 3 at the time. He seemed to enjoy it. We made it to about 3 or 4 of the waterfalls. It's not really difficult to hike, but it is impressive considering how close it is to total flatness lol

The full primative loop would be tough for a 8 year old. Bad thing is once you get started there is no shortcuts so just soon finish the full 5 miles. Most of the falls can be easily hiked to. Bring water and snacks.

Also print out the map before you go and bring it. And correct $3 change for the parking.

There are two areas; Tunica Hills and Clark Creek (pond, Mississippi). Sounds like a lot of these responses are talking about Clark Creek and not Tunica Hills.

Clark creek has improved trails, maps one the trails etc. your son would be fine there. As someone mentioned, I wouldn't do the primitive loop with him. No real cell service to call for help/ directions so plan accordingly.

This. Plus if you are planning/wanting to camp out, there at camping grounds at tunica hills. We went camping the night before and made the short deive to clark creek the next morning to hike the creek bed and waterfalls. Had a blast.

There are a number of geocaches hidden in the area. Cell service is too poor to use a cell phone app, but he will have fun finding them if you have a GPS. Watch for snakes if it's warm and you get off the paths.

Do not drink the water!!!

For some unknown reason it has infected people with poor hygene, rapid brain cell loss, tooth decay, and increased the desire to live in a trailer park.

Tunica Hills WMA and Clark Creek Natural Area are two nice hiking options near BR. Be sure to eat at the Magnolia in SF! Also nice hiking options closer to BR at Port Hudson State Park and Mary Ann Brown Preserve. I usually stay away from the first two places during hunting season, but the other two are safe anytime. March is the best time.

Can someone give me a link or a map of some of the trials and tips on where to go? It would be much appreciated. I wouldn't mind going up there while I on my break. Anything I should definitely see? Bluffs, waterfalls, etc?
