I fish close in if the tide is in, wade out to second sand bar if tide is out. I won't throw a bait unless there are birds or bait moving, And fairly clear water.

I usually throw noisy top waters, like a black/ chart nose She Dog or chrome blue, or a big swim bait first thing then go to sented plastics, electric
Chicken, pink and Chartruse. Some times a poping cork with gulp on it is the deal.

I saw a guy get dragged by a shark that got hung up in the mesh of the floating fish basket.

Has the bacteria in the water that kills people come back again?

Never left. If you have an open cut and a compromised immune system you either need to band-aid that thing up, wear waders if its below your waist, or just stay at home.

That's probably the best thing to use honestly.
I just personally don't like the smell of Clorox. Stuff makes me gag for some reason.

An addendum to this is to stay far away from the jetties. I had a bad experience and did something really dumb several years ago, I went to go climb on them to fish the other side......step in a hole right in front of the jetty, hit my knee on the rock, pulled it out of the water and I had blood everywhere. Even worse I went back to the truck toweled off, and went back to fishing. Fortunately, I didn't get an infection.

Honestly and I am no MD but I think most healthy people, getting gashed up is not going to kill them or get them sick. Your immune system is going to do it's part if you take care of the wound in a timely manner and maybe not go back to fishing after you rip your leg off. The people that get nailed with vibrio are the ones that are already battling an infection, the elderly, or like I said, got a compromised immune system from some other underlying issue. However, I wouldn't take any unnecessary risks though like having an open cut and go fishing without taking all precautions necessary because no fishing trip is worth losing your life over and this shite strikes quick. Like within hours.

Was participating in a sailboat race along the coast. Guy jumps in to scrub his hull clean before the race. Cuts himslef on barnacles climbing out. raced the race then went to the hospital afterwards to get it cleaned out. They had to amputate a toe.

Called him chief nine toes after that. Boat name was War Canoe.
