Live on the north shore and fish lake p and the marsh in the area. mostly brackish water and generally more fresh than salt.
anyways have a guy i know with a newer i pilot terrova for sale for a pretty damn good price but it’s the black model.
is that really a big deal? i get you probably wouldnt want that model if you fished exclusively salt water but…thoughts?

Id buy it and use it. Buddy of mine had a black I pilot for years in Salt water and never had any problems.

I just bought a black Terrova. Plan to use in fresh and salt. The money I saved will go towards a new one in 10 years.

Will prob be fine, just clean well after every use and watch the hardware for rust.

I've had black one in saltwater for 8 years now. Even with cleaning really good you will have maintenance to do on it every few years. I've changed pretty much every part on the thing except the motor it self and the main board. Minn Kota sells all the parts online and they are pretty cheap. Given my boat colors a white one would look terrible so I just keep the black one working. One of these years hopefully Power Pole finally brings their TM to the market and I'll switch over to it.

If we're being honest, you just won't look as cool as the dudes with white ones.

I’d buy it just because they are hard to find right now. If it’s a good deal then get it.
I opted for the salt water Terrova 80# and it’s a great trolling motor.

From what I’ve seen there are two main differences between saltwater and freshwater rated trolling motors.
First, the saltwater electronics are potted to keep from corroding. That just means they are encased in epoxy with adequate heat sinking rather than open circuit boards only protected by the plastic head cover.
Secondly, they have an extra layer of paint on the steel components.
Storing a boat in a rough salt-air environment would probably make it a more critical decision between the two. You should be fine.

I have the Ipilot power drive. Fish both salt and fresh. I cant see any difference in the two unless its internal. Make sure you have the Bluetooth model. Its a good back up to use your phone as a remote if you misplace the original remote.
