Mind if I hijack your topic? :)

I am also in the market for a new trolling motor battery, but with completely different use case.

I have a 12ft jb I use in a 4ac pond. Paddle works well for me most of the time, but if I want to troll for crappie or if it's really windy, I prefer using my 35# thrust minn kota. My battery crapped out this past Fall and I need to replace. It was a traditional lead acid. If I can spend a little extra money and get Lithium to cut the weight, it makes a big deal to me, as I have to haul it up to the pond with all my other gear every time I want to fish.

I'm not incredibly worried about run time, if it dies, I just paddle a couple hundred feet.

I am thinking something like a lawnmower battery size, but lithium, and 12v.

Any recommendations? Seems I would need a specific kind of charger too, no?

For your application, yes. Some companies are selling a smaller AH battery with an inexpensive charger as a package.

We use the duracells from Sams - they are rebranded DEKAs/East Penn.

I have 80ah lifepo4 batteries and they run forever, I probably didn't need to step up to 80ah after running them 4 days on a 36v trolling motor on a 23ft bay boat...

Dakota lithium is not a good lifepo4 reseller. I ordered my batteries direct from alibaba, if you do your research you can save a TON of money on your batteries.

Wait what? A marine lithium boat battery doesn't like water? Yeah that could be a problem

I suppose if you forget to turn on your sump, your boat is sinking or you forgot to replace the drain plug as you are coming off plane.......otherwise it shouldn't be a big issue to be honest.

Lithium batteries seem to be one of the few things decreasing in price. Seeing some 10 - 12 years warranty on them too. Lots of different brands out there to choose from.

i just pulled the trigger on my small 20ah LiFePO4 with a charger from ExpertPower dot US, which seemed to have the lowest price. I'll reply back in a month or two with a review.

I’m running 3 lithiums. The bass pro brand is made by Relion. Great batteries so far. 500 a piece for 60ah. Last all day sight fishing.

ETA: As far as lithium I think we're getting to a good point price wise. What a lot of people will have to do is change out their on-board chargers as well. Not sure if mine charges lithium or not. Also if you're motors (trolling or cranking) are under warranty some manufacturers don't want you using lithium.

I had my mechanic tell me a few weeks ago not to switch out my batteries for lithium because they would blow the alternator on my engines. He said it is a big problem that most people don't know about.

I don't use them for my motor. I use one of the Duracell AGM batteries from Sam's for that.

Lots of info out there on this. Two or three(maybe more) companies have optimized BMS for use as a starting battery. LOTS of pros are using them, even with the new Merc 4 strokes.

Just try not to use the highest setting to much and that should do you well. Amp hour usage jumps a lot on max.

Thanks for the AliExpress mention. Hadn’t seen it before, now I’ve got another place to spend money. Haha

We are looking to switch our electric hunting cart over to Lithium. Similar battery needs to a trolling motor (72V system).

Any particular brand you guys recommend?

In my search for a cheap house battery, I have run across several companies offering golf car packages. If you search, you will find.

Much like the colorless coolers, many deals to be had by simply ordering from the Chinese...

i got the duracell AGM batteries for same and they are great.

Do not buy any interstate battery for a trickle charge, they will run out of water in a few months and burn up. i learned hard way
