Yep. Wait till they turn bright orang/yellow and enjoy. Just watch out for the giant seed/seeds in them. The fruit is excellent for jams, making wine or just eating off the tree.

Do you have a recipe for jam or wine? I have a huge tree in the back yard.

No I don't. My grandma use to make both every year but she's long gone now and I never watched her do it. I would think a quick google search should turn up something.

I always just ate them right off the tree and had one in my back yard just getting to the point of producing nice volumes of fruit-------then Katrina hit and the floodwaters killed it and I never replanted.

Watch them close when they go to turn pick them. Birds will destroy them all really fast if your not on your game. Have lost more to birds than i've been able to pick over the years for not paying close attention. they will turn in less than 48 hrs some years.

Unfortunately I won’t be around for the ripening. I took a job in Florida and will be moving in a few weeks. I was still curious though. Thanks for the responses fellas

First picking from our trees went to the ole baw in town who makes wine gave him around 50# 2 5 gallon buckets full to over flowing. Now the wife and I are picking the choicest ripest ones a dish pan at a time. for jam and freezing.
