I hate chasing down that crap,, easier to have a spare trailer and when one messes up, buy a new one.

additional info:
i have breaks on trailer
plugs straight in to truck w/o an addapter - if that makes a difference

check your wiring for any breaks.. especially where it comes out of the trailer... Happened with mine, had to replace the wiring..

90% of trailer light problems are related to a bad ground in my experience.
Do you have a test light to start checking out the connections?

If it's a newer Ford you blew fuse #31 under the hood.
It's happened to my 2009 f150 twice. Everything works but the running lights when it blows.

I have done this with my F150 as well.
Also have a friend with a GMC that blew a fuse under the hood of his truck.
It is likely the ground but make sure and check the fuses on your truck if it is a recent model it will have an entire set just for trailer lights.

I think the others wouldn't be working if it was a ground issue. Only the running lights being out is indicative of a fuse that only controls that feature of the light. Thus, everything else still works.

Maybe so. I am certainly not an expert at trailer lights or an electrician but I have seen trailer lights do some strange things.

Bad ground does crazy things. I would start there. Easy to do anyway.

You have brake lights, just ride dirty...

This is the best idea BUT i'll change bulbs, look for a ground faulty wire spray electric clean & then re-wire

Check at the plug on the truck where the trailer plugs in to. Sometimes they are cheap butt connectors and corrosion will set in. Maybe as simple as wiggling the connector. If you have a boat trailer a test light is a must. They are $3 or $4 at Walmart. Well worth it.

1. Ground (12 volt test light will help)
2. Corrosion at some connection. (dielectric paste on connections will help)
3. Fuses (on one occasion I blew a fuse but usually it's a ground problem)
When replacing tail light fixtures use dielectric paste, crimp butt connectors covered with heat shrink.

I think Clyde has your answer. Same thing happened to my neighbor....replaced a lot of wiring, and then found out it was a bad fuse (even tho it he checked that first).
