Do not buy a JD. Any work on those has to be done by dealer due to JD software. Buy Kubota or LS.
Bigger tractors, 100+hp yes.
Smaller tractors that's just not true. I have a 5075E and called the dealership today asking about something on mine.
The service guy walked me through what I need to look at to fix it.

I have a 2014 open station Kubota MX5200 with 1150 hours on it and have had no problems with it. I have 284 acres with 8 acres of food plots. I am wanting a cab tractor and something with more lift capacity. I’m seriously considering the TYM 4058. Cab, 4x4, 3 remotes, 3rd function valve, a switch that lets you lower/raise rear arms and a telematics app which lets you check diagnostics in real time. It’s actually the legacy Branson 5835 with a cab and other improvements. Looking at about $44,000. There are several videos if you google it.

I practically cleared 55 acres with a Kubota 3200 armed with a grapple. I was able to move some pretty large logs with it as long as I balanced the load, kept it in 4WD and eased along.
I put that little tractor through hell and it cranked every time I turned the key over.

I started out two years ago looking at 40 to 50 horsepower tractors. I ended up getting an LS MT 357 HST with the cab and glad I did. Multiple times I’ve needed that little bit extra 57hp. Had no experience with LS but the dealer I use sells them and have been good to me so that’s what I bought.

Are you trailering it far? Often?
Posted on 9/8/25 at 11:55 pm to magicman534
How far are the two places apart? Will you have to trailer it between properties? Too many questions.

There are way more JD dealerships in the US.
I had a JD 35 hp. We used it to cut and bail hay for years. Never had a problem.

Tractors are a lot like your pecker. You will always want one bigger than what you got. For that size property I would go no less than 45-50 horse and six foot implements. I would cheat more towards a 50 horse and with all the grass cutting your talking about, go with a 7 foot bush hog.
I live on 23 acres and my L series 32 horse Kubota does fine.
I would make sure whatever you get has a FEL with quick attach. Changing out the bucket with a set of pallet forks is super nice. You can also make you a basket attachment for those forks and ride in it to clear roads with a chain saw.

Tractor will stay at the property.
Dealerships are 10-15miles from property. Lease is 108miles or 1hr 45 min from property. I’d probably tow it there 1-2x a year for food plots and road work

Then remember what you have to tow. What you are using to tow. Have a good trailer and tow vehicle.

GMC Sierra 1500 but I’ll probably buy a 2500 or equivalent next year. The trailer will be part of a package with the tractor.

Insure it for theft.

I had a similar thread the other day and the recommendation I got was at least a 40hp tractor with a FEL, 4wd, and a cab.

Get a 3rd function hydraulic on the loader and get a grapple. You'll use it 5x more than you will a bucket.

Minimum is about treefitty hosses, AC, 30 inch flat screen and it does everything itself. You just think about what needs to be done and it starts doing it. Minimum.

I’d look at a JD M series- like 4044M or 4049M

Picked up the tractor last week. Went with a Kubota mx5400HST, 1065 loader w/quick attach, RCF 2772 land pride cutter, 4k forks, 6’ atlas 500 series disc, 3rd function kit, and 14k trailer w/ brakes on both axles. Hoping to buy once, cry once. I Used it for a couple of hours cutting and it’s a beast but I almost killed it bc I didn’t stop often enough to clean the radiator and screen as I was cutting 6’ tall grass and it got clogged pretty bad. Let it cool down and cleaned it frequently and it was good after that. Pulling it on MS roads is fine with the brakes, Louisiana roads are a very different story. Thanks everyone for the advice.

I have 85 acres here at home. Had a 45hb with bucket. Kept 2 years and got 95hp cabbed. Always go bigger

Kubota is known for this. Watch it closely. Tend to the filters and screens often and it will treat you right.
