Some of my favorite times in my life are in a stand, golf cart, or blind with my dad. When I was younger the conversation was very much how I assume yours went. A lot of questions about random stuff and the outdoors. Things you probably thought were completely random. I know I was a nuisance, but my dad didn't mind because he knew the bond we were forging.
As I became a teenager, the conversation shifted but not too much. I was still young and naive. We talked about girls, high school, staying out of trouble, making the right decisions, and all that other father/son stuff.
Now as a 22 year old about to graduate college, the conversation revolves around life, marriage, jobs, future kids, and all of the other challenges life throws your way as you grow up.
Point being, while the conversation changes, the bond has always been the same. I couldn't be anymore thankful to my dad for forging that and including me in that bond from such a young age. I grew up in the woods and my dad and I's relationship grew with that.
I applaud you for doing the same. Both of you will cherish it for the rest of your lives.

Two weekends ago I took loopback jr. (He'll be 5 in December) He had a blast, ate 4 fudge rounds on the afternoon hunt and played the iPad. (no sound, eff some headphones, I barely allowed the ipad)
We saw nothing but the next morning, after walking 50 yrds through the woods in the dark with him, climbing the stand twice to deliver him and the gear, at around 6am had three does come out and start feeding. He went nuts, took everything I had to keep him quiet.
We aren't supposed to shoot any bucks under 8pts so I had to make DAMN sure they were all does, it was still very dark, must have spent 5 minutes looking through the scope with him saying "Daddy, Daddy, are you gonna shoot? Daddy, Daddy, you gonna shoot one? Daddy, Daddy hurry before they leave, Daddy Daddy, my hands are cold, Daddy, Daddy what are you doing? Daddy Daddy Daddy" I just knew he was going to spook them so I picked the biggest doe and shot, turns out it was a spike...damn the bad luck. Here's a few of loop jr.

That's awesome! He'll of an inventory. When I started taking my daughter we did not have all of that stuff - believe it or not a coloring book and a box of crayons did the trick! You both will remember those times!

I started taking my little boy when he was 3. He's an old veteran now at 5. He loves it. It has changed my whole deer hunting approach dramatically, but I wouldn't change it for the world. Hell it's mid November and I haven't killed a deer yet. That hasn't happened since I was a kid. But it's all good

Thought about that, but then I didn't want to spoil the moment by rushing to skin it out and not taking pictures, etc. I just fessed up and told the club I made a mistake.

My daughter just turned 3. I look forward to the day I take her to the stand with me. Right now we are just doing some backyard camping stuff. Gonna do the real camping soon. I imagine next year she will be making her first deer hunting trip. Can't wait.

Shoot, I brought my 3 year old and all I had was 2 packs of those orange crackers with peanut butter, a bottle is water, and a pair of binoculars.. Shot a nubby buck about an hour and a half after getting in the stand(got in at 545 and shot about 715) stayed in the stand till 9 when my dad and my 6 year old came out from their stand.. Luckily I dropped the deer and that kept his attention until 9..

Been all good around here. Busy with work and kids. Trying to do as much hunting as possible in between all that. Can't wait for duck opener this weeekend at Cazan's!
Back on topic: I went on a youth hunt with my 2 stepsons and their dad 2 weekends ago. Had 2 does come out into the food plot. 1st one busted us moving in ground blind, 2nd walked right into the cross hairs at about 75 yds. Oldest stepson got nervous about gun recoil and didn't pull the trigger. It was one of the funnest hunts I have ever been on. Younger stepson slept through the entire afternoon hunt.
Moral of the story: It really doesn't matter how loud you are and how much you move (both stepson and his dad got out of ground blind to pee), stupid deer will walk out into food plots.

Speaking of Cazan's, you know I've got a blind there right?
Shitty thing is the first opening week, I'll be in St. Louis.
And yes, those deer will suprise you. These three came out literally 3 minutes after we got settled in the stand, had just finished blowing my nose, I figured I might as well blow it with all the racket we made getting settled.
