Tikka t3 lite d-18 300wm recoil

I have a lil over a grand in gift certificates for either bass pro or cabelas and looking to cash them in on a elk rifle for a potential trip either this year or the next. I have multiple guns I could prolly use (7mm mag, 270, 308s) but want to go buy another gun on the higher end of the caliber scale.
I have looked at multiple reviews on other forums and have shot other 300wm mags (BAR, abolt) but have not shot a lite weight 300wm.
Anyone have one? is it brutal with the brake? If it is how is it if I would step down to say 150s for deer and pigs kind of a 300wm reduced recoil if you will?
I have a tikka 308 so I’m familiar with the gun just not the gun in that caliber.

I’m in the same boat, debating if “upgrading” from 308 is worth it just for a couple of elk trips. Really don’t want another caliber to manage but wants to be comfortable with up to a 400 yard shot

I have had a Tikka T3 Lite in .300 Win Mag for 3 years. The recoil is 100% manageable. I was doing a dope card one day on my ranch and sat down and shot a whole box in one sitting.
My shoulder was a little sore the next day, but I'd do it again without thinking twice.

Does it have a muzzle brake or unbraked? My thoughts being that a braked lite gun will probably be close to the unbraked heavy 300wm I shot but just curious. I remember it kicking hard but yet manageable but no where near 12ga 3.5 Turkey load levels lol

I have been shooting a T3 lite in .300wsm since I was 14. No issues. It is a bit annoying to sight in but I like it for hunting. Super light. I never needed a brake.

I've spent some time behind a sako finnlight 300 win mag, which I think is similar in weight and have shot a whole buttload of tikka T3's, and a few rifles that kick pretty damn hard.
Recoil won't be a factor with good technique. Its going to buck a little but I definitely wouldn't get a brake. Reduced recoil loads are a good option when you can find them, they basically duplicate .30-06 horsepower and recoil.
The sako wasn't bad at all. To me it seems like basically all that big stuff (300 win, 338 win, 35 whelen, etc) all kick about the same. A little more lively than a heavy .30-06 or 7mag load. Nowhere near as bad as heavy 12ga shells.

Yeah planned on going start the application process this spring anyway. It’s a threaded 24in barrel and that was part of the plan

Thanks chat ,,, looking at a recoil chart it’s showing ~30 pounds which is the same as a 45-70. Brake should be about 20% reduction minimal so somewhere in the 22-24pound of recoil.
Thanks for feedback

338 win,
I fully expected you to tell me that’s what I should buy lol.
As for the lite loads I have a press just need to get dies and primers and such and start reloading my own at some point. Hornady press sitting in the box for 3-4yrs now and never used. My boots are worn from all the arse kicking I have done to my self for not having been set up before Brandon.

Nah, that would be a pretty rough ride behind a tikka with heavy loads and definitely not what a guy worried about recoil needs to get. 300 win will easily do everything you want with better ammo and component availability. Id cook up some light loads for deer just to avoid blowing them all to shite on close shots. A full power 150gr 300 win mag at 50 yards will do very nasty stuff to a deer.
I do think gets too much attention and shooting technique not enough. I've noticed that many people have horrible shooting form off the bench, hunching over and almost laying down behind the rifle and then not hanging on to it. Thats as bad as its going to get and it doesn't take much recoil to be uncomfortable like that, and real recoil is going to hurt. I HAD to learn how to shoot when I had a very lightweight 375, and now 300's, 35's etc are downright easy to shoot. I developed some bad habits from shooting soft kickers my whole life and now make it a point to try to show people how to shoot guns that kick.

You should be fine with a break. That being said, a 300 mag will bump you pretty good.

i have the t3 lite in 338 wm with a brake, and shoot 250 grain accubonds pretty hot with no trouble, it will let you know it is there and a box of shells and i am ready to call it a day, but it is not meant to be a plinking or range gun, get it, get comfortable with it and use it when needed without thinking of recoil

I've shot the Tikka T3 lite in 300 WSM for 7 years. Like previously mentioned, it can be annoying to shoot from the bench, but under field conditions, with adrenaline, I don't even notice it. Unless you have a shoulder problem, I wouldn't worry about it. My biggest issue is the clicking noise I get from the mag when rotating the gun.

What powder? I'm working some of these up as soon as I find primers.

71.5 grains of RL 19
We tried a few and got best results with that, I have about 1/4 pound and a handful of projectiles (no primers) if you want to try before you buy
