Man, y'all got me wanting to get my old Evinrude 7.5 out and see if I can get it running. It's a '71 model if I remember correctly.

Do it, I enjoyed working on dad's so much that I now keep an eye out for old ones in need of fixing just to have something to tinker with. They aren't easy to find, cause any redneck with a socket set and internet access can generally get them going again. Parts add up, but it's a fun hobby.

I think i spent less than 150 on mine. I replaced coils, points/nova modules, fuel lines, spark plugs, fuel pump, and rebuilt the carb. There were plenty of videos so it took a lot of the trial and error out. I seriously screwed up and thought I had killed the motor but it ended up being a cheap ebay fix. It was fun learning about it.

I have an 83 Johnson 25HP I'd like to fix up. It needs a new cowling. Did you paint the motor?

I can almost smell the 2-stroke exhaust just looking at that picture. I like the old gas can too!

That looks exactly like mine. Hell we used to use it to duck hunt before any of us had go devils. I ran a tube from the pisser up to where I sat so I could see the water coming out easily with a flash light... I'd flip the little shallow drive lever to keep the motor up and make someone sit on the very front so the back wouldn't bog down. The little motor (nicknamed Little Jimmy) only left me stranded once when I broke a sheer pin at The Prairie on Manchac WMA.

No, I didnt paint it. I helped a buddy clean out a shed he had inherited and the motor had been in there. The shed hadn't been opened for around 20 years. The motor is a 69 but the cowling is a 71 or 72.

It is pretty clean under the cowling

It ran for a year and back to being difficult. I can get it started but I think its running on 1 cylinder. I rebuilt carb, replaced pull string, replaced a fuel line, spark plugs, wires but I just dont want to deal with it anymore. I just dont want to mess with it anymore if anyone interested but where else could I shop for a new or newer 15 hp tiller ?

I have a 9.9 that runs perfectly......if you fix the pull chord. Oh, and this thing is old. Can send pictures if you like. Cheap.
