South Alabama delta everyone calls em green trout. Not sure where it originated from but if I catch a bass in a lane it is what it is. In the delta they are green trout.

may be one of the few places on Planet Earth where you can catch a bass on one cast, and a speck/red the next.

We've got several spots across our state we can do this, I always find it facinating. We actually did it the other day, caught trout for a while moved about 25 yards up canal and started catching green trout and reds.

When I was a kid, that is what we called bass. I'm 54 years old. Same thing towards a bream. We called them perch.

Guess it is a southeast New Orleans thing.

I really think it's of Chalmatian origin.

My PowPow called them Green Trout. He was from the ninth ward and had cousins out in the parish.

I go both ways depending on who I'm talking to.

There are still a few green trout, stripers and perch in the area.

I'm 55 and I didn't start calling them bass until I got to LSU in the 70's.

Out of Lafitte they were called green trout and to be honest when I was a kid I only thing we fished them with was top water baits or a fly rod with Pecks Poppers

Had 23 specks over 3.0 pounds, and 15 or so smaller fish. Couple of reds too, and a green trout

I want to know how they caught specs/reds and bass all in the same water

Redfish can live in freshwater.. Tomoka river down here north of gainesville you can catch snook, gar, tarpon, bass, flounder and bream all on consecutive casts.... It would be a ridiculous feat but I'm just sayin, they all live in the same spot

My dad refers to them as green trout...He is 65 and born and raised in Biloxi, MS. I personally have caught "green trout" fishing with live shrimp and popping corks while fishing for reds and specks in the bayous around Ocean Springs, MS.
