I’m here and Omega has brought in about 100 employees and big cats.

Is the new Secretary of Wildlife and Fisheries there?

Sheesh....we screwed
Like I said when this first popped up… LDWF really is powerless to fight this
The legislative branches need to fight it

If she is it’s because Gov Landry selected a 26 year old with no experience in this field, or managing large government departments. She will do his bidding without hesitation. After this job she’ll move on to a higher position in the Political Industrial Complex.
We’re getting the government we voted for. Tolerating insider influence $$$$$ is embedded in Louisiana’s political DNA. Why we put up with marginal ethics devoid of conflicts of interest is amazing.
I’m certain the governor’s brother’s smug and dismissive response to the issue, as Omega’s “spokesman,” wasn’t done because he’s concerned about the outcome.
It’s a crying shame for the future of our recreational fishing community.

Summed up my thoughts on this nicely.
The new LDWF sec is there to be influenced even if she does not even know it.
This 1 mile buffer is simply a crumb thrown out to shut people up, even if it passes does it do much? Who will enforce it?
The pogie industry has all its eggs in the Louisiana basket and they will throw as much money (and who knows what else) at it as necessary.

This issue unfortunately doesn’t get enough attention to produce any real change. Until the local news stations start reporting on it and showing the damage this has no traction. 90% of the state has no idea this even goes on and that’s exactly how companies like omega protein like it.
The word has to get out to the media like Fox 8 and WWL.

She was there she’s quite imposing.
I had to leave early, but the impression I was getting was that the notice of intent was going to get voted down. It’s real simple. We put cameras on those boats, and show how much bycatch there is. No one cares about the spills themselves, rather, the spill of big fish like specs and reds

This has happened before ….. further proof cats are bad for the planet - a lot of those pogies end up being can food.
Seriously pressure needs to be applied to politicians or it’s a waste of time and energy.

The pogey companies have already deployed this tactic and they are winning. Money talks, bullshite walks.

As soon as yall posted Landry's brother worked for Omega or whoever, doesnt matter. You might as well spend your time catching as much fish as possible.
Anyway to get those whale wars people to come over here and fight the pogie boats?

I forget who it was, perhaps spokesman for CCA, asked all of the gubernatorial candidates whether they would be for or against further restriction and oversight on Pogie fishery. Every one of them said they would be in favor of more restrictions and oversight except for.... Landry. Landry won't be budged by anyone in state, however there could be considerable pressure from outside of the state and Florida in particular as these boats are also killing migrational tarpon.

The NOI is now postponed until next month.
So, now Omega, Westbank and CCA are going to negotiate 'terms' by the next commission meeting to present for consideration. If an agreement cannot be made, the commission will then vote.
What a shite show.

CCA needs to push for observers on boats to film what turns up in the nets, It's real simple.

Nothing happened at the meeting newsworthy. The two companies will set down with interested parties ie CCA and try to come up with a agreement that both parties can live with. In other words they win and we sportsmen of the state will lose!

David Cresson, if you are reading this, I have your cell number from past conversations and I will post it here if you fail us... J/K... maybe...

This game is like college football and the NIL debacle. He who has most money controls the game....David would like to control the game but he's playing with UL NIL type money and the two big boys are UT and A&M!
