we should teach em to shoot. Level the playing field.

Until then I will drink my coffee, turn on my heater and hunt in my fluffy slippers

These grown men posting on message boards, pissed off about people posting pictures of 4 and 6 point deer on facebook, should be embarrassed.

This isnt everyone's goal and Jackie bushman convinced you that it is what hunting is about.

Horn restrictions protect the herd long term and in turn protects most of you from your own ignorance. Much like most laws that are written. In turn we see more mature animals to harvest. Its a win win.

Although true that doesn't mean you should ridicule someone for following the law and being happy about a kill. They SHOULD be happy or they shouldn't have shot it.

Educate and push for sound hunting regulations.

given the choice between taking a large racked buck versus a small racked buck. Large racks have been the choice since God put em here

Yes it is when two are standing next to each other.

Point is, I dont want the state restricting the size of the deer I can shoot on the basis of a pipe dream of having bigger horned deer running all over the state. Thats what Jackie convinced everybody they need. You want bigger deer, you hunt an area that has bigger deer. There are many areas in Louisiana where you can kill monsters and theyll sell you land there.

its not a pipe dream. Antler restrictions work.

It works everywhere.

I have no problem w what any hunter shoots or where he posts pics as long as it is legal.

But we all desire to kill bigger deer versus smaller deer. There is no need to lie, this is just fact

True, but I'd rather kill 2 or 3 deer every year than kill 1 4.5+ year old buck every 3 years.

Some are going to come on here and say "shoot does for meat", but some of us can't hunt every weekend and have to take what we can when we can.

Again, if they're standing side by side. I dont want to kill bigger deer bad enough to tell my neighbors they cant shoot certain deer.

The only thing I dont like about the way it is now is that we have doe days. I'd kill 3 does a year every year if I could but doe days are a bitch.

My friends hunt in Polk County Texas, they passed antler restrictions about 8 years ago. The hunting there has gotten so much better they cant believe it. There are some biological reasons you want older bucks in your herd.....results in better breeding, more intense rut, healthier fawns, and a better herd. This helps all hunters, the meat hunter and the trophy hunter.

Article from Texas in 2010

A 13 inch inside is not that hard to find.

Just a couple years of letting small bucks walk and everyone sees the benefit. I mention Polk County because it us just an ugly pine thicket, like much of La.

Not really, people from La spend gobs of money to go to the MidWest, to Texas, to Mexico....all of them have no problem passing on tiny bucks when they go on these hunts. Why? Because they have to, but also because they know that a big buck may be right around the corner.

We have to change the thought pattern that we must shoot em because: 1) the neighbor will 2) it will be the only chance I get.

I didn't know that this still existed. Looks like area 5 and 9 are the only areas that have it like that. Seems like with the tag system no one should care when you shoot them.

Where I hunt it VERY common for old deer to not get this wide. Our deer grow tall, not wide.

I expected someone to report this, but most all research indicates that a 3.5 year old deer is very likely going to be over 13 inches inside. Sure there are some exceptions.

Yes it does and it sucks, and people who want less small bucks dead should be livid about it.

And I expected that you wouldn’t believe me. I didn’t say none of our deer, and probably not even most of our deer, but a good chunk of them simply don’t get wide. It is common for some of our bucks to have main beams that curve towards each other and and a couple we have killed even crossed. I think they look cool.

Deer hunting in the state of Louisiana needs to be managed by land type. Don’t try to manage the shithole I hunt in like it’s Concordia or tensas.
