He has a camp out in the marsh in Lafitte separate from his main lodge. Our camp is a few over from him, so saw and talked to him on a regular basis. Most times he would show up was in his plane. Sad to hear.

Coast Guard video of them rescuing the 3rd man who survived the plane crash that Theophile was flying. NOLA Link to Coast Guard Video

This could have been much worse for those two passengers. They are rather fortunate that TB was flying over Stump Lagoon and not out in the middle of Breton Sound.

RIP TB

Our camp is across from his on the point. I use to be over there with my grandfather who would talk with the guy cooking for them. Can’t remember his same but TB always was nice and talked to me.

I fished out of his place on July 5th this year (with another Captain) and he was getting the plane ready to fly that day. I didn't disturb him but he was doing a preflight at the time.

wouldn't a open water crash be the same as inside water crash?

I would think the crash is the same. But Id rather go down in shallow water where you can swim to a point of land as opposed to bobbing around in the bay where you are really vulnerable to the whims of the currents.

Sucks to hear this yesterday afternoon.

Ever since I watched the Castin' Cajun episode with Theophile flying out to the islands its been on my bucket list.

Now thinking about that video is just sad.

Thanks for pointing this out...

Just dug myself out of a Theophile YouTube Rabbit Hole. Wow, he's going to be missed. Great guide but an even better human being. Not many like him anymore.

any speculation on what caused the crash?

When I got home from his lodge I went willingly into that rabbit hole. A lot of great videos there on him.
