so you're bitching about pressure on the fish while you yourself were fishing them?

Buddy I sorry you did not catch many where you were at. But I went the same time you went. and fished the same fingers and we caught fish. I have a camp there and you are correct. In the last 5 years there have been more boats on the lake. But if you don't want to see that many boats don't go in Feb and March. Just as good or better going in Oct Nov and Dec. Less boat traffic and fish are on fire. Most of the people are hunting. I was there for Christmas day and we have Housen for our self's. Busted there arse. But if you want to catch go to the Texas side. Last weekend they had 3 tournaments going on with over 500 boats on the lake that Saturday morning. Not excluding the weekend warriors. I waited to go till the afternoon, launched at Solon's and went across San Miguel and bust there arse. 2min boat ride.

I thought Solan’s was at the mouth of San Patricio not San Miguel?

Feb and March while it's easier to target bank spawners it is a mess. Everyone goes to the bank and very rare to be able to go on main lake due to wind which causes everybody to hide in the creeks. Then every 7 days is a cold front. 75 one day and 25 the next.

I will be up San Patricio this weekend, weather permitting... Not asking for specific spots or anything, but can you give any info on depths, baits, etc?

TIA

The poison the state sprays kills the submergent vegetation along with the floating. Anyone that claims otherwise is in denial.

This is simply false. The information is out there.

Do you know how many acres of hydrilla used to be in Toledo Bend?!

The amount of herbicide it would take to have killed all that would be unfathomable.

I believe the lack of grass is more of a water level control situation than a herbicide issue.
A lot of camp owners complain about the grass affecting the ability to drive their $90K tritoons to their boat docks. Like everything else in life, it’s a trade off. The grass is good for the fish but chokes up launches and makes accessing shallow water areas difficult.

May not be the state doing the spraying, may be the camp owners.

I know for a fact camp owners on Caney Lake spray around their docks to kill grass for them to swim around their docks.

He said copper sulfate is what he used around his dock to knock back vegetation. He spoke with a biologist before and that’s what they recommended.

Fished Toledo for the first time this year, yesterday on Good Friday. Launched at Wrights and fished midlake all day. My 14 year old ans I caught 25, up to 4 lbs. Had 18-20 keepers. We didn’t see another boat all day.

I’ve never been to Toledo Bend, but I can tell you Santee Cooper in the 90’s had a ton of hydrilla. Between spraying, broadcasting copper sulfate granules, and (at least at that time) the largest stocking ever done of grass carp it decimated the hydrilla to the point it’s taken years to come back. And that’s 170,000 acres.

They were trying to rid Santee Cooper of hydrilla. If I was trying to kill hydrilla I would do the same thing But They did no such thing on Toledo

They stocked about 4x too many carp on Caney Lake years ago and it decimated the grass. So much so that the carl would follow people around while they were mowing their yards they were so hungry

Turbidity and fluctuating water levels killed the hydrilla on Toledo
