... looks a lot like the astra vest, which is a very good whitewater jacket. It's got good (an amble) float down low in the front to help flip you upright and plenty of arm freedom. with enough in back to keep you head up. You can also keep it fairly tight (not too) around lower torso, while keeping top chest buckle looser.
Not sure if it's good for fishing?
eta: looks like they make this: Stohlquist Fisherman PFD
and another just for sit-on-top kayak fishing: Stohlquist Keeper PFD

Look at the NRS Chinook if you are wanting a PFD to wear while in the kayak.

NRS - are certainly more affordable
I have their Big Water Guide and while no fishing vest, it's some serious float for swift water.

I have this one, keep extra line/tippet/flies/etc on it. Works well on my Coosa.
Got out on the Hiwassee this past weekend. Was way too busy to fish a lot, snagged a few small bows.

I saw the Keeper last night. I think I'm gonna get it. But, I just picked this up. So, I'm gonna wait a couple of weeks.
I'm curious about how y'all run the transducer from the unit mount. Do you just take it down the side of the hull, or run it from the bow to the middle?

What type of Kayak will it be going on?
An easy way is something like a YakAttack CellBlock (easy DIY) that mounts on geartrack with transducer mounting to an arm over the side. Unit mounts on top of battery box.

You feel like the transducer was accurate with that setup? I've looked at that one for a while.

Ascend H12. I posted a picture of it on page 41.

Got to fish lighthouse lakes this morning in port aransas area. Beautiful out on the flats. Had to go buy longer ratchet straps. Didn't like the cross and hook for transport. Definitely not the best way to do it

Nice!
After reading about them and seeing some videos about transducer mount jobs and how to rig it up, I think I'm just gonna use the garmin for its GPS. The fish finder is great. And, I can use that all in another boat. But all that wiring in a kayak seems like a pita. I'll have it for watching the marsh and shoreline I fish, and in case of an emergency I suppose.
Is a water depth and using a fish finder in LA coastal marsh, like around Lake Borgne, really that necessary? I don't know. I'd rather use it for its map, I guess, and not have to tap the hull.

I never had one in my pelican. Looking to add one soon to this slayer. My anchor was my depth finder in the cheapo. Got back to nola a few hours ago. Think I may go out again in the morning after a nap. Thinking PAC for a quick trip. After 9 years it's nice to be able to stand up to take a piss

I have a home-made version of that set-up and my depths are very accurate. I posted a tutorial on it when I did it but of course all of those photos are gone now thanks to photobucket.

Nado, if you continue to load up top like that flip it over. The stress over time can cause cracks in the frame. Trust me. I had to seal them. It will cause the bottom to bow in at each bar.

I am going to pick up an arm like that for mine soon. I tried it out on another kayak and did a little experimenting. The depths seem to be accurate with the arm and it is super easy to use.

Yea I was going to ask this. Aerodynamics didn't seem to be that good this way. The cross cross straps wasn't great either.
I've got long straps now that wrapped under the bars over the yak under the bars and back again.

The last pic shows all the stuff I used except I had to use a different dry box because my battery didn't fit in the first one I bought.
And here's a link to my walk through thread. As I mentioned, most of the pics are gone, but there are still some good links to products and a narrative on what I did:
DIY Kayak Fishfinder Mount

A fish finder will be the next addition to my yak. Fishing the Tennessee river chain like I do, they're just about essential for much of the year. It's hard as hell to find deep fish and structure without them.

man that's a very clean setup, do you have fixed to the side of your boat?

There's nothing holding it there. The transducer arm is a solid piece of metal so once it's bent to the shape you need it, it does a pretty good job of holding it shape.

ok got ya, and thanks for the link thinking this is my next investment now that my trailer is done
