You can convert a 601 drive to a 701 with the weed guard and new pedals. The 701 is basically what folks were mod’ing anyway

So what's everyone's Go To Speck setup? Rod, Reel, Line, Lure, etc.

I use Shimano Curado K's with 14lb Stren Mono on all of my rods. For trout I feel like there is a bit of stretch using mono that helps you not pull the bait out of the trout's soft mouth. It is also plenty beefy for big reds too though (just ask No8). Also much easier to tie on baits since I tend to use my teeth for cutting line.
I have one of the V1 Faclon Bucoo rods that I love. Also throw Castaway and Duckett rods. All medium or medium-heavy and fast action.
Baits will depend on the day. Usually if the shrimp are running its a Norton Sand Eel Jr. in "Chicken on a Chain" or if its bait fish around, a Mirrolure MR-17 with the black back and orange belly. I have recently become a big fan of the Gulp Swimming Mullet over my last few trips. I really like the curly tail action.
Damn. I want to go fishing now.

I like to throw a flacon HD medium light 7’ spooled with spider wire “stealth smooth” 15#
Moss green
And I don’t use a liter straight braid to the lure
I’ve lost too many nice fish with those damn liters but to each his own
Reel most of the time for trout is 6:6:1 to 8:1:1
Manufacturer I have cheap too expensive and I’m convinced it really just doesn’t matter
But my days of dropping $200+ on a reel are over in salt
But all of that is just personal preference I think it also has a lot to do with the way you are fishing for em
are you throwing exclusively jig heads on the bottom or going with twitch baits/topwater
will all change the set up
Hell my cheapo silver max spinning set up has brought a lot of trout to their demise

I use left over bass stuff that I don't mind ruining. Currently, some older black max round reels and BPS rods.

7' Cajun Savannah rod, Daiwa Tatula SV, 20 lb braid, Matrix Shad in either lemonhead or shrimp creole

Bait caster - 7 ft. medium fast G Loomis E6x with Shimano Curado. 12lb mono. Bait varies anything from Matrix Shad with 1/4 oz jig head to Rapala Skitterwalk topwater.
Spinning - 7-7.5 ft. medium fast rod (popper model from Falcon is a good one). Shimano Stradic 2500 or 3000. 12lb mono. Rattling cork (I use H&H). 20lb flouro leader to vudu shrimp.

It came on the new drive with my Max and it definitely works. Just keep in mind that grass is still going to get wrapped up in the prop. All this does is make it easier to pull the grass off because it doesn't get caught inbetween the propeller and the cartridge.

Only thing about the new integrated weed guard is I think you have to take the whole part off to clean or check in there. I hand the weed guardian and I can pop it on and off
The prop still comes off like it used to. The only difference is you can't replace the shear pin without taking the whole cartridge out. I've never needed to replace a prop or a shear pin before though so I see it being a rare problem.

Crank arms are different on 701 drive as well.

Anyone Demo'd the new flex drive from Jackson? I know the old version had lots of issues but it seems like the new one is a lot better? Don't know if it's just paid advertising or what.

Anyone have recommendations on depth finders for a kayak? I have a Predator 13 and don't need anything too fancy. Also if anyone has guides on mounting a transducer on the Predator it'd be helpful, I know it has a slot to do that.

Nobody fishing in this wind lately?
Got my tail whipped by the wind and nasty water over here, but found a few chunky trout to take a ride home with me.

MS. Bay St Louis area. It's been so muddy over here and the wind is just relentless lately.
