Anyone have experience with an Ocean Kayak? Specifically the Prowler line? Going to look at one this weekend and I might be joining the OB kayak crew if it's right.

I can’t make it this year, I may fish Slaunches on the 30th. If you are ever coming up I-49 give me a shout and I’ll be glad to bring it out.
I haven’t had a chance go try the FD so I can’t really compare the two.

Is it the prowler 13 like this one:
Or the Prowler Big Game II:
The first one is a fine fishing kayak designed for open water, sit down fishing and longer paddles. Used, I wouldn't pay over $500 for it.
The second is one of the best non-pedal yaks on the market with a ton of features, customizability, and tremendous stability for standing and fishing as well as the more desirable lawn chair style seating. It is built like an absolute tank, is pretty heavy, but tracks well and paddles great overall for its size. With the right accessories and setup, could easily approach $1k used.
They're both excellent boats for their respective applications. If you plan on long paddles and open water fishing exclusively, the first is a great choice. If you like to stand and fish and like to fish a wider range of open, deep water and tight, shallower water, the big game ii is tough to beat. The build quality on both will be very good.

Most people here have pedals. Very few paddlers left anymore. This board has come a long way since the Ascend. Lol

Ah ok, the one I'm looking at is the Prowler 13, not the big game. It's going for $500 with a bunch of upgrades. Alternatively, there's a Predator 13 available near me for $700, upgraded. Which one do y'all think is the better deal, assuming both are in good condition?
I should add that the predator comes with a paddle for that price, while the Prowler doesn't. Not exactly a deal breaker but could help in the decision making

Predator 13 100% between those 2. The predator 13 is very similar to the prowler big game ii. Ocean kayak and Old town are the same company and the bgii and the predator 13 have very similar designs, share the same seat and are just both excellent boats. For $700, that is the far and away better option.

Post up some pics of the rigs if ya can and the biggest piece of advice I can give is whatever boat you choose put it in the water and demo it for as long as ya can before ya buy. I’ve seen lot of people get a rig and then after 2 trips put a for sale sign on it because it
“Wasn’t comfortable, couldn’t stand, too heavy, etc”
But like others have said the trick it to find a boat that matches how you fish or however you plan on using it

Gonna have to disagree. I bet the majority of people on this board with kayaks still have a paddle one.

No doubt. Those are still decent entry level boats and got a lot of people into the sport, but the build quality leaves a lot to be desired.

Predator 13 w/ paddle, anchor trolley, anchor
Prowler 13 with upgraded seat, rudder, and anchor trolley. No paddle or anchor.
I'm probably going to be fly fishing out of it as well as using a spinning rig. I'd assume the Predator would be better for fly fishing based on what I've read. More stable, easier to stand in, etc. If anyone can confirm I can pull the trigger this weekend

If you have any desire to stand and fly fish, the predator is the only of those 2 options that will accommodate that. You'd also have more room for a stripping bucket, etc... in the predator.

Fly Fishing in Old Town Predator Kayaks
Cool YouTube of guys fishing from old town predator kayaks. They're using the Minn Kota model, but the boats are very similar to the predator 13 you're considering. Shows them standing and fly fishing. Thought you'd appreciate it.
Eta:
speckled trout fly fishing from Predator 13
This guy uses the exact model you're looking at and some sort of waste mounted mesh thing for stripping:

Awesome videos! If I can do anything close to what those guys manage in their kayaks I'd be happy.

Oh don't worry, I've already sent out a message to go check out the Predator.
Does anyone have experience fishing in bigger water in a kayak? I'm going to start out in manchac because it's the area I know best but I'd love to catch some reds out of one, if it can handle that!

I have fished Big Lake multiple times as well as the Santa Rosa Sound in the Predator. It No issues at all.
I am taking my kayak to Destin this year to go on an offshore snapper trip.

You probably don't need pedals as much as us Coastal guys.
