My Grandparents were from Alexandria. I spent many summers in Toledo Bend, Larto, Cotile, Cleco, and Kincaid. Good times.

That's what I recommend. Keep an eye out for Native, Jackson, Old Town, Wilderness Systems, FeelFree... sit-on-tops with a lawn chair style seat. That's going to be your sweet spot and should be fairly easy to find if you look for a couple of months.
Found a Jackson Coosa for $500 with a trolling motor mounted. Seems to be a pretty good price (though I worry about if the drilled extra holes in the hull to mount?) It's a ways away, but down near where I have family several hours away, so hoping it's still available in two weeks when I'm down visiting.
Anything in particular you guys look for as red flags on used yaks?

Before you buy that, make sure you are ok with that much covered storage. Would be a no go for me.

Look for cracks along the seams of the kayak. I would also make sure that they do not have too many thick cuts on the bottom. (oyster shells/being dragged on concrete)
If you are going to have a trolling motor on it legally it will need to be registered like any other boat in Louisiana. Not sure if they would have a title or what would be needed to register a used kayak.

Holes really dont bother me. They can be filled with marine epoxy if no longer in use. Cracks in the hull from impact and seam separation around scupper holes are usually what I look for.
And FWIW, the Coosa is hull designed with moving water, sharp turns and tight spaces in mind. If that's your fishing style, awesome. If you think you'll be on big open water, the Coosa does not track especially well (which is probably why they installed a motor on it tbh). Now if it is the Coosa HD, that's a different story and that boat is pretty excellent all around.
The covered storage comment from Alx is really personal preference and probably something you wouldn't know until you fished out of it for a while if you're new to kayak fishing.

Hit up PAC yesterday, wasn’t expected much with the high winds and slack tide but caught some fish and solid buzz, #Lentmeathaul

One mod I would make is to order accessory plates with built in gear tracs. Makes adding stuff super easy. They're not cheap ($35 each) so just order one or two to start with as you figure out what your setup is gonna be.

How’s the fishing in Grand Isle in June?
I know it’s a ways away, but the family booked a camp for a few days in June and I definitely want to bring the yak. I haven’t been down there in 15+ years. So, my memory is a little foggy.
