That thing is so fine.
I've also seen the biggest alligator of my life right at that spot when I was in high school.

That's a very serious forward casting platform. Multiple levels. Lean bar. Big enough to be used as a small dance floor. I dig it.

The lean bar was a last minute decision but I think it was a good one. I was up there for like 4 hours straight the other day and I was thankful for it.

I had lean bars on the front and back, people still fell off of both. If I had a trolling motor I probably would have gone the same route you did. Smart move.

Freshwater or Saltwater?
Saltwater. he place I wade out at can get pretty damn windy. Is it still possible to cast when really windy?

Jesus. Just for a fly rod?

That's not expensive in the world of fly gear.

Hardest thing ive ever tried to do in life:
Thread an eyelet into the end of fly line. Did not succeed

Anybody been to Belize? We're heading to Eleuthera next month but trying to line up a fall trip now. I'm looking at El Pescador but I'm not really crazy about fishing with guides and I don't know how much DIY we could get done down there.

What's the standard backing length for an 8wt saltwater setup? I know you hardly ever get into it, but 100yds seems too little imo.
Posted on 4/11/16 at 6:59 pm to PapaPogey
Depends on the reel really. What type of backing does it call for with 100yds of backing?

From Allen's website
Is that max capacity or standard? I see some 100yd spools and some bigger.
eta: talking dacron only

You really don't need 30lb for an 8wt. Look for 20 lbs
Also Dacron is much thicker than spectra backing. You can probably get another 1/3rd more on the reel.

I got 30lbs for my 8wt solely because I use 20lb leaders often for redfish and would puke if I lost $100 worth of fly line. I don't know if that's flawed logic though.

The leader/Tippett would break before the backing would.
