Incredible footage. While watching, my head was twisting and turning and ducking those tree limbs. We all know that raptors have superb vision and the camera proves it. Those hawks were diving and spotting game that I couldn't see even with the camera lens focused right on the game. Incredible...

Aaawww, shucks, Guys!

A few photos of our last 3 hunts. We struck out one day, but got rabbits on the other two. I even threw in one without his "helmet thing" for you meanies that make fun of him. He's sensitive about that.

eta: I didn't take time to blur out my face. Now you all know how handsome I am.

We all saw you about halfway through the thread anyway.

What are the things on his legs with the bells used for?

There are two different things on his legs. He has a set of anklets that are used to connect a leash system so he can't fly off. And he has a set of bells attached by bewits (just another kind of anklet). I've changed the type of bewit since the thread started. I made some snap on ones, but didn't like them, so I came up with a better design out of paracord.

The football helmet is like blinders for a horse. Keeps him calm. Keeps him from trying to fly to every perch he sees when I'm trying to carry him through the woods and fields. Keeps him from attacking dead rabbits while I'm trying to gut them. Etc. etc.

Also, the crest on top has an actual purpose. It's there to hold onto when you're putting the hood on. Most people hold it between their middle fingers to slip it easily over the bird's head.

Filson is great. That said, I wore out a pair of their double tin cloth chaps in about 3 months of briar busting. They gave me a full refund with no problems though. Great company. Their chaps just aren't tough enough for the abuse I put them through. But, not much is.

I've had mine for 20 years. I had the chaps but I outgrew them. We used to quail hunt when there were actually some wild birds around where we live.

Now days I just use it for dove season...

This thread is badass. I never knew about this stuff until I found this and it truly is one of the coolest things I have seen. Love the video with the camera on the hawk. Thanks Teague for posting and keep it up.

Thanks, man! I didn't know that anybody actually still did this either until one fateful day about 3 or 4 years ago. I stumbled across a youtube video and the rest is history. My wife says she knew as soon as I yelled to her in the other room to "come watch this!" that I'd do it. She knows me well.

Today's rabbit:
