When you start glowing in the dark from eating too many you'll have a problem.

Fun as hell using that light tackle and the kings and spanish would blow the baits up doing flips out of the water.

I have kept one, sliced it, soaked it in 7up to kill the oil and taste, then fried it. It was OK, not horrible but OK. You just have to run past soooo many better tasting and textured fish to get to the kings, so why bother.

This and KM are one of the fish NOT to feed to KIDS. Mercury is very high in them.

Ok, ok, I was just joking about eating the oily bastards. I've never done that. I thought the sarcasm was a bit more obvious.

No I don't intend on keeping them for anything other than a weigh-in and bait. No plans to feed to my wife or my yet un-conceived children. Just to snapper.

ETA: Now can we get this thread back on track for how to actually catch them?

Everything said above will work. the only other thing I can offer is if you don't wanna go very far out find where the emerald green water is and troll everything you see. I have not done this myself but have drank beer and watched the SKA boys burning fuel doing this so who knows. If you are close to the MS coast there are some monsters around the barrier islands. good luck

He is going for Master Angler-Rig Div., in the same rodeo next Fri/Sat that several OB peeps are in. You get points for the first six places in KM, Mangrove, Red Snapper and Cobia for the rig division. Inshore & Offshore each have four species. Most all kings caught after being weighed, the fisher slinks off and slides the king into the water for crab food.

From what I hear the MMR guys will be down there fishing the ABC rodeo. They are pretty good at catching a bunch of different species, especially Kings. I've heard there may be some trolling involved. Good luck.

When grilled fresh or eaten raw fresh I have never had a problem with it. It isn't as mild as snapper, and it has a distinct flavor some people probably don't like, but I don't mind it one bit.

We caught them all the time when I lived in Miami. Smoke them and then make fish dip or eat on sammiches is the only way I really like them.

Edit: The people in S. FL fricking love those things. That's the first time I had ever eaten them. I missed the sarcasm up there
