I paid $269. With tax it was $292. I have a basspro credit card and live five mins away so I prefer buying from there if it’s all the same. I hate paying for shipping or FFL that comes with buying online.

not bad, when I saw bass pro I was worried I’m a gunbroker.com whore because I don’t pay transfer fees.

You’ll have to give us an update as to if you like it. Both of mine are about 7 years old so I don’t know if Savage has changed anything

How are the magazines on that savage? I've heard mixed reviews.

100% of Savage mags are cheap lookng, but about 75% will reliably feed. I have one of these custom magazines for Savage Mark II and I like it. It's well made and welded.

As far as recs rifle recs, it depends on how much you want to spend.
Lower cost, ranked from most to least desireable:
Savage MII (I really like mine).
Ruger 77/22. If you can find one on the used market, you'll have an accurate, wood stocked 22LR. OTOH, I doubt you'll find one w/ a threaded muzzle.
Ruger American. Based on reputation alone (since I've never shot one) and the Ruger rotary magazine.
Howa Model 1100 (Howa has magazine feeding issues that are well documented on YouTube videos). Mine is reasonably accurate, but not as accurate as the Savage. Mine has mag feeding issues.

Higher cost: CZ, based on reputation. I've never owned one, but I've hunted w/ one of my buddies a lot and his 17 HMR is really accurate
Tikka T1X. I like mine. It's really accurate.
Bergara. Nice reputation. I'll probably buy one in a few years.

OTOH, if you decide to run suppressed ammo instead of "Quiet", that opens up the world of semi-autos. If you go w/ a semi-auto, I really like my 10/22's.

Ammo: If the gun is going to be suppressed, I'd shoot subsonic ammo instead of CCI's "Quiet." I played around briefly w/ "Quiet" and it was not as accurate as regular subsonic ammo. In my guns, my favorite subsonic are CCI Standard Velocity (round nose), CCI Subsonic HP and Aguila Subsonic HP (but my 22/45 hates this ammo and I've not seen in stock for a 1-2 years). The trajectory for "Quiet" is not nearly as flat as subsonic so the gun's scope settings will need to be dedicated for that ammo/gun combination.
Savage MII and night coon hunt.

I took the Summit Stainless action, mounted a Volquartsen carbon barrel, MDT Oryx stock, Kidd Trigger, Dear Air Mask, and topped it with a Leupold rimfire 3-9 x 40.

It wasn't cheap but I'm going to retire the Sako Finnfire now. Wanted to go to a suppressed rifle and didn't want to thread the Sako, it'll be a safe queen now.

That’s a great list, thanks! I went with the Savage bolt rifle bc I’ll mostly shoot the anemic CCI Quiet. 710fps of pure fury.

Hey, I live in an HOA. I’m doing the best I can.

I shoot quite a bit of these.

The CCI quiet segmented round is very effective. I’ve taken swimming beavers with them and many squirrels. That segmented bullet that they load all the way from quiet to mini mag really is pure fury. I carry a Browning BL-22 loaded with the quiets on daily walks with the pup.

You probably came out on the better side of this by not having to pay the transfer and not paying for shipping.

CCI Quiet or Aguila Colibris will not cycle in any semiauto that I know of. also not recommended to to shoot those out of rifles (I have often) or suppressors.

clarification CCI Quiets are good through barrels shorter than 24". most 22LRs are never gonna be that long

Super Colibris have a warning on the box that says for handgun use only.

There is a CCI quiet semi auto that is 835 fps. I’ve shot it out of an internally suppressed mark 2 and it was awesome.

Oh ok, gotcha. I bought the quiet 710fps for my Taurus TX22. They shoot but don’t cycle, which was expected. Should be great from a bolt action.

Yep, I bought a bolt Ruger last year that accepts the normal 10/22 clips , put a Dead air mask on it, and with subs, I just started laughing…

TIkka T1x with 16" barrel, Sparrow 22 can. Mine shoots Eley match subsonics (1100 fps) inside 1" at 50 yds. The sound of the bullet hitting the plywood at 50 yds or hitting the dirt is louder than the little pop. I can fart louder than those bullets out of a suppressor.

Tikka T1x - $600
Leupold VX Freedom 2-7x33 - $300
Sparrow 22 can - $350 + $200 tax stamp

Also tried the CCI whisper quiet that shoot 710 fps but they weren't accurate and wasn't enough difference in sound to "make them work".

^^^ and this...if you're using a can, the Eley subsonics will be just fine. Huge different in accuracy in 1100 fps vs 710 from CCI

If you want something that is accurate:
Bergara
CZ

Exactly this.

I have both. Keep the suppressor on a bergara. Shoot turtle heads at 50 yards and coons under feeders at 100. Movie quiet.

Cci subsonic are the quietest and most accurate I have tried. Minute of turtle head at 50 yards is good enough for me:)
