Needing some advice on my current situation. I have a 1 acre pond stocked with 400 coppernose & 400 bluegill. It was stocked approx. 1 year ago. I also put a 10-15 bass that weighed around 1-2lbs each. Unfortunately the pond was flooded with surrounding waters during the flood of 2016. I have been fishing the last few weeks and have been able to catch the bass, which looked to have grown since I've put them in the pond. Problem is, when I bream fish, I only catch the green sun bream. I feed pellets 3-4 times a week and see fish eating, just not sure what type of bream it is. I plan on fishing for bream hard this weekend to get a better idea of what I'm dealing with. Anyone ever had this type of situation??? Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated.

Check out the pond boss forums, lots of good info. If you have green sunfish, some will say to poison the pond and start over, some just advise deal with with them by other means.

If you can throw a cast net cut off the feeder for a few days. Then hook it back up, and when it goes off and you see fish feeding throw it out.

I'm not an expert but was this the recommended amount? Seems like a lot of fish is all to me. Were they finger size I'm guessing?

As said, a cast net after feeding is the best way.

Yeah that's the recommend amount according the shepherds hatchery, up to 1000 bream per acre.

This. Depending on your goals green sunfish aren't the end of the world but they compete with both the bream and the bass. Will just depend on how bad you want them gone.

Might not be the most effective method, but green sunfish are among the favorite delicacies of flathead catfish. Put in a few flattys and let them do some control.

Downside- flatheads will eat anything that fits in their mouth and grow rapidly. A 10 pound flathead can and will easily devour a 2 pound bass.

Green sunfish are good eating but they're just so disproportionate because their heads are huge, it takes a pretty big one to make it worth cleaning.

1- You shouldnt have put bass in there until the little bream had a year to grow and spawn their 1st generation.

2- but you only put 10 or 15 bass....

3- in a 1 acre pond, 10 bass will eat up 1000 bream in a matter of months.

Do what the cast net guy said, and post pics and video.

I waited a solid year prior to adding the bass. Sorry, I should have stated that. Will update with pics.

Put a hoop net and hang some artificial crawfish bait. It will fill up with bream.
To keep it open you can either tie it open or put notched pvc pipes the length of the net, notched on the first and last hoops.

You need to do what is called a "soft Seine" to your pond. It is probably the most effective way to determine the overall health of the pond. Seine one corner slowly..when you examine the species in the net there should be equal numbers of small bass to larger bass, and larger Bream to smaller bream. If there are no larger fish it is overpopulated, if no smaller fish, it is either understocked or something like a flood, disease, or spring overturn happened, etc

OP are you absolutely sure you have green sunfish contamination in your pond? Could you attach a picture of the problem fish?

You said you stocked bluegill about a year ago. Was this a newly flooded and stocked ponds, or did you supplemental stock bluegill into and older established pond with an existing fish population? Did you have flood event which could contaminated the pond with wild fish from another source?
