In my case shoes don't work. I was in the bay looking for scallops in Port St. Joe, Fl. I was wearing thick socks and wearing tennis shoes. I got stung on the foot. The barb went through the shoe and through the sock. Actually part of the sock was showing on the outside of the shoe. I guess as the barb was coming out it hooked the sock and pulled it through to the shoe.

Anyway, it was painful as hell. Went to the St. Joe hospital. Can't remember exactly what they did but soaked it, probably wrapped it and sent me on my way.

Don’t mess around with that stuff... I’ve seen several cases of necrotizing fasciitis secondary to shite like that.

I got hit in back my ankle wade fishing 10 years ago. I've blown an ACL, a patella tendon, and stuck a nail through my foot to where it almost came out the top.

The stingray injury tops them all. I didn't know the hot water trick at the time, but learned it in the ER. Go get that thing x-rayed, there could be fragments in the wound. Plan on fighting infection for the next couple weeks, your foot will turn blue soon.

Don’t want to downplay your pain. They hurt like holy hell. But from that pic, you may have gotten off better than some. I had an employee once get hit hit while surf fishing the Chandeliers and it was the worst thing I’d ever seen close up. His foot swole up as big as a soccer ball and the hole was a 1/2 inch wide. He said when he got to shore, he was begging someone to knock him out.

Saw a buddy's dad get hit like that, only instead of through the fingers, it went through his palm an inch in front of his wrist and popped out between his fingers.

Ol baw pulls out a Rambo looking knife and sliced the rays tail off.

Get back to the beach and he basically filleted his own hand to cut it out.

He acted like this was all normal behavior, I never surf fished again

My wife and Mom are both nurses and they are here. They got some q tips and alcohol and got into the wound cleaning the inside as good as they can.

Looking for any signs of infection and seems ok for now. We head back home today and I'll probably go get it checked out when we get back just to be sure.
