My ole lady has got me hamstrung on getting another dog. She is wanting a standard poodle due to the lack of shedding and they are supposed to be pretty smart?

I know they are good with hunting too, so I might dabble in that a little if I can find any time.

Just looking for info, reviews and breeders in Louisiana..

We have a toy poodle and he is a great dog. He's very smart and doesn't shed. I know the standard poodles were originally bred as a hunting breed.

Great dogs. Very smart but, stubborn as hell.

I had one growing up. He would run away from you as fast as he could go. You would call for him and he would stop, look back and then continue to hall arse. He got lost one time for about 10 days until he wondered home starved and filthy.

Cool dogs, had a toy growing up. As long as you dont let her give it ridiculous haircuts, you could do worse than a poodle as a compromise dog.

Both of my Jack Russells were like that, especially my first one. He would make you look like a freaking idiot trying to catch him. The ONLY way we could ever catch him is that he'd eventually go nosing up to another dog behind a fence (usually 2 blocks away from the house by now), and you could throw a towel over him while he was distracted. My second one disappeared for a couple days. He turned up at the animal shelter in Mandeville.
ETA: I have a Yorkie now that's about 9 months old. He's around 10 lbs., so not a fragile toy Yorkie.I'm quite surprised at how much he is like my Jack Russells. I never realized how much pure terrier a Yorkie could be - was expecting a lap dog. Pleasantly surprised - he's a blast to play with and is an amazing tree frog hunter.

See if you can get her to compromise and get a Goldendoodle. A cross between a poodle and a golden retriever.

Son this is for my wife, I have zero interest in getting a dog at this moment. I already have a new human arriving in February.

standard poodle is a very good hunting dog, especially for doves.
they are a "real" dog, very smart and very athletic
he will serve you well

My son has a standard poodle. Smart, loyal, good with kids, no shedding, and I do take her bird hunting quite successfully

Claude Martin is the best breeder. You'll pay, but his dogs are incredible.

Hope he still breeds them

Got a six year old standard poodle black. She's a decent retriever. Very easy to train. She don't shed. Excellent house dog. She had 2 litters of goldendoodles and we waiting to see if she's expecting pups from breeding with golden retriever 2 weeks ago.
